9mm combat commander

So I was in Maine this weekend visiting my father. On the way up, I stopped at a gun shop to have a look at the guns there. Anyways they had 2 colt commanders in 9mm. One in much better condition than the other, it looked owned but not used much, I would say about 95%.
What is the going rate for one of these? They were asking $650 each. Plus I would have to pay shipping and an FFl transfer fee to get it home. I ended up not buying, because I didn't want to spend that much money at the moment.
Should I have bought one? Was it a good price?

I do not know going price, but my 2003 Gun Trader's Guide says
$470 for a Series 70, and $447 for a blue finish Series 80.

Series 70 and 80 Combat Commanders (steel frame) were only available in 45 ACP.

Series 70 Commander (aluminum frame) in 9mm at 95% would be worth around $625 according to the Blue Book.

A Series 80 in the same condition would be worth around $385.

I could been mistaken, but it was a 9mm, the tag said combat commander, can't remember what the slide said, except series 80, and it felt to heavy to be aluminum. However if they weren't ever made, maybe someone put it together.
Anyways glad I didn't pick it up, seems to be over priced.
Thanks for the info.

I paid a bit under $500 for a 9mm Combat Commander several years ago.
It had a custom grip safety, Millet sights and skateboard tape on the front of the grip.

The trigger wasn't too good so I had that worked on. SARCO had magazines to supplement the two Colt mags it came with.

It's become a favorite 1911 pattern gun because 9mm ammo is so cheap.

I have got to start drinking more coffee before posting! :banghead: I had it bass ackwards, the aluminum frame Commander is only available in 45 ACP, the Combat Commander (steel frame) was available in 45 ACP, 38 Super and 9mm. Sorry for the confusion.

Since it is a series 80, the Blue Book puts it at $447. The fair price will vary depending upon where you are and just how much you want the firearm. $650 sounds a little steep for a used (even in 95% condition) Combat Commander Series 80.

I also have a Commander (alum. frame) in .38 Super ;)
