If you were going to buy one or the other, just for the fun of it, which would you get, and why? And don't suggest a glock for the "polymer frame/metal slide" kinda pistol.
To me, they're about the same -- great ergonomics, etc -- except for the SA/DA action on the Beretta, which I prefer to the DAO S&W. However, I've shot both (although they were in 40cal) and neither would be my first choice for a new pistol.
Basically the same dimensions with a slight edge going to the M&P for overall size and sight radius. Same capacities, same adjustable backstraps....... Recoil should be less with the PX4 (barrel design) and the trigger is very nice (haven't tried the M&P). You can convert the PX4F to a "G" model by yourself. I also like the looks of the PX4 a lot better as well.
perhaps just my opinion but the despite the fact that the m&p I shot fit well in my hand, it felt soft. squishy if you will. I did not like that and all. I promptly went back to my kimber
If I were going to buy a poly gun, it would be a P2000 But from your options, I'd go w/ the Px4 just because my hands really like the Beretta ergos & I'm kinda hit & miss w/ S&W
To clear something up, this isn't my "first handgun" or anything, just a potential "first auto"--at least the first (only?) poly-framed, if I do decide on one.
Yes, a 1911 is in the pipeline; yes, tanglifo's designs are awesome, i plan on picking up one of each at some point; this is more tentative. Cheers!
And steelhead--something tells me you might just be a little biased.
I've shot the storm Pistol on 3 seperate occassions. It is "okay," but really like any other standard DA/SA with external hammer. Nothing great about it.
Haven't shot an M&P yet.
Personally, i'd have to recommend a Walther P99 with the A/S trigger (be aware that there are several trigger options)
I think that the M&P is going to have a longer life and be better supported and the Beretta. I also find the M&P to be more ergonomic and generally a nicer pistol to handle.
I love my M&P. Very svelt for the overall package, especially compared to the size of the PX4. My son shoots the M&P in Production class ipsc, he loves it big time. Its got a sweet trigger job and is amazing. That being said, however, the PX4 is on my to buy list. I'm thinking the PX4 would be a fun Production class blaster.
