With the ammo shortage everywhere, whats the status of the 9mm Makarov? Is it available in stores? On line? What are good (read: affordable, non-corrosive) brands to look for?
As for any store I go to, it seems to be the only available pistol ammunition. Granted, it's a little higher price, but every place is out of just about every other ammunition used in a semiauto pistol (.22, .32, 9mm Luger, .380, .40 S&W, .45, etc.) and it seems like they have 9x18 in stock.
They may not have 9x19 but Walmart does have 9x18 at some stores. I was surprised to see that Gander Mountain had 6 different varieties of Mak rounds including some HP from Hornady and Silver Bear. You should also check out http://gun-deals.com/ammo for a good list of outlets with stock. The cheapest is at http://www.floridagunworks.com/ but shipping is expensive
Now that you mention it, they have Aquila 158 gr SJHP in .38 spl for about $17/50 which isn't too bad and its good ammo to plink with, and in a pinch could be used as SD ammo (evidently a police force in the N/W uses this for their duty round - or did before supplies all over got tight).
