Is is possible to find a .32 rifle for less than $500, in any form?

To say I have gotten hooked on shooting black powder would be an understatement. As posted in other threads, I now have a TC New Englander in .50, and I want to expand the line some. Several companies (green mountain comes to mind) make .32 barrels for the TC Hawken and Renegade (both rifles have octagonal barrels, the New Englander's is round), but not for my New Englander. The only solution I have found so far is to bid on a stock on ebay, and then get the barrel later.

I tried looking into the possibility of a kit (pre-packaged and buying all the parts individually; from dixie gun works and track of the wolf), and the price is about the same, $500.

I'm not trying to be cheap (thrifty, absolutely), but it just seemes that the rifles I am able to find are a little over priced.

Thanks,

D

p.s. I'm thinking specifically of a percussion cap model. I don't want an inline.

I have seen a few of the .32 Crockett's on Gunbroker, might be one on Gunsamerica too. Heard plenty of good stuff about them

There are a few out there under $500. Traditions Crockett comes to mind immediately. A better value yet might be the Cabelas Pedersoli built guns. They were on sale in the $350 range too, and might still be. There are a number of used .32's on the market in that range also that might be worth looking into. You can also get a barrel made in .32 for most any rifle that you already have. Price usually runs in the $200-250 range or so. Check Dixie's web site for deals. They have a pretty good variety but I don't remember prices offhand. Good luck and let us know what you end up with! :)

Cabelas blue ridge rifle is an excellent rifle, I have one in a .45 and I love it. I got mine for 350 plus shipping. It is built by Pedersoli. Nice 39 inch barrel and set trigger for a very easy trigger pull. Best black powder rifle I have.

.32 rifle

My vote is squarely for the .32 Crockett. I bought one 3 years ago on gunbroker for $200...it is a tack driver....I couldnt be more pleased cept I had to smooth the edges on the rear sight so they wouldnt cut the carryin hand.
The rifle is just fine with 15- 48 gr FFF. Mighty FINE choice!

Know ahead of time that there's an issue with some of the Traditions Crocketts. The breech plug is fitted poorly in many and it leaves a gap in the breech area. This snags jags and causes stuck rods. It also leaves an area that can't be cleaned very well, so corrosion is an issue. I don't know if it was a particular run of guns that had this problem, or if it was random guns made over a period of time. The factory is aware of it and is going to correct the problem, but as far as I know, haven't done so yet. You can get more information on this from muzzleloadingforum.com. Several folks there have had the issue and it has been discussed thoroughly.
