A Fair Trade?

Hi All,

I am in need some opinions about a trade I'm considering. I've got the opportunity to trade both my Savage Mark II .22lr and Savage 93R17 in .17HMR for a Winchester Model 70 in 7mm Rem Mag. The savages have a synthetic stock with a fluted bull barrel. Both my Savages are in perfect condition and have a low round count and from what the guy says the Winchester has only 5 rounds down the tube. It has a small rust spot on the barrel and that's the only flaw, everything else is in perfect condition. I believe it may be an older model though... one from the New Haven plant before they closed. Almost forgot the Winchester M70 is a sporter.

... So is this a fair trade?

well, personally i wouldn't due to the fact you can shoot those two rifles for less than that 1. if you don't have a large caliber such as the 7mm, and need one, then do it, but i wouldn't. it's entirely up to you, and based on your situation.

not a 7mag fan myself but..... the savages are worth around 350-450 used IMO. The win is about equal if its a syn stock but if its wood, you may be doing OK on the trade. Rusty guns are VERY hard to sell. even if its only a small spot, people shy away. Think of it as "could you sell it to someone else for what your savages are worth?"

I'd keep what you got. I have a 93r71 and know they are nice...especially fluted.

or sell and buy Exactly what you want. Cash is King in all deals

The two savages can be bought new at $250 a piece, I paid less that that for them. I already have a 300 WSM and 300 Win Mag so I don't need really need the rifle, It's more of a want. I'm kinda torn, not sure what to do....

I reload so cost of ammo isn't that big of a deal.

What roles do your rimfires fill? What role would the 7mm fill?

Which would you shoot more? Which would you gain more enjoyment out of owning?

I'd keep the rimfires personally.

To me, this is the question. Personally, I would rather have a Winchester 70 in 7mag than 2 rimfire rifles, but you may not share my interests.

The rimfires are small game/plinkers... The 7mm would be a deer/other large game rifle.

I would shoot the rimfires more of course, but I believe I would appreciate having the 7mm more, if you know what I'm saying.

If I do make the trade, I plan on getting a CZ 422/455 to replace the savage .22lr

Well, if you already have a replacement for the rimfires, and you would appreciate the 7mm more, it sounds like you have a plan in place.

I have a 455 BTW - very nice gun, especially with a Yodave trigger kit in it.
