I have a heavy barrel coming for my Savage 210 12ga slug gun, and I'll explain what I am trying to do.

Basically, I am loading 12ga brass cases with a slug crimped exterior to the case, like a rifle cartridge crimp (like 12ga From Hell if you have seen that).

For my first loads I am starting with 2-3/4" brass from Rocky Mountain. So I needed to find a die to do it at that length. I found the RCBS Cowboy Shotshell brass reloading die here: 12ga Cowboy die

Now, will this die be able to crimp a large jacketed (or cast) bullet in the case like a rifle round? In other words, like a giant 45-70? Or will the die bottom out and hit the bullet head due to its design?

I am having CH4D make me custom dies for 3.85" cases, but initially I want to find a way to load smaller 2-3/4" brass. So I'm searching everywhere for a way to do this without another very expensive die set being needed.

If this will work, I have one final question. I will be using an RCBS Ammomaster press. Is there some way I can adapt the Cowboy die's 1-1/4" threads to the Ammomaster 1-1/2" threads easily?

I have no idea whether your idea will work or not, but your adapter is available from CH4D:

Press Top Bushing:

PTB08 1-1/2-12 x 1 1/4-14 $ 15.70

Thank you. Although I found out that this cowboy die is for thinner cases. I am using Rocky Mountain brass. I know I need a custom die set for the full-length cases I will be doing, but somewhere I'd imagine that a correct die set exists for the smaller lengths of 2-7/8.
