A few new knives I made

Nice work! I'll vote for the middle one. If you could make it with just a little more Bowie sweep to the blade, I would be extremely interested in one. The craftsmanship in these are very remarkable. Looks like we'll be seeing you in Blade magazine soon. If you start selling, PM me- I would like to be one of the first sales for bragging rights!

Darn it Don - had that new pic on puter this morning and then forgot to answer - had to go shooting ya know! :)

That is a beautiful piece of work - outstanding and whilst I do not need more knives I would happily consider a purchase of one just like it.

The etched name is A1 - love it.

Small question of nosey interest - do you or have you done any ''edge tests'' - to see how long an edge retains it's ''scariness''?? Just wondering how you judge the efficacy of heat ttt - under relatively normal use of course - no cutting down trees! :p

I've cut stuff like paper and wood but that's about it, and after hacking a 2x4 it was still sharp. They could use more testing and I need to get better at sharpening. :)

Thanks man, this is fun! I've taken a few orders and now it looks I'll be going to the big Blade show in Atlanta in 2 weeks. After that I'll what I can do to hook you up! :D

I just missed the big show in Vegas in January and would really like to make this. 600 tables!

If I go that'll really set me back on making knives but we'll set you up in June or July.

Very nice. Soon enough, we'll be saying, I knew him when-

:)

Oh- I'll be at Blade. PM me, if you'd like.

John

Hey Valk, have you considered working in Damasteel? It's mighty pretty...

Shown here is a knife my husband had made for me by one of his co-workers (I'm the knife junkie in the house). Shown with my former carry pistol...

I would love to try some of the various steels out there - I've stuck with O1 so far because I've wasted alot of it and because I can heat treat it myself and make a good knife that's very strong and flexible.

Plus the price will go way up with some of those materials! :)

John, I'll PM you about Blade!

yeah i know my sword won't end up being very strong, jsut so long as it will survive one or two whacks at an intruder, ill be happy-
yes going very slowly, its worknig out- i need to take a new photo, its actually getting sharp in parts now, and feels much better weight wise, the lighter edges make it swing better.

I don't know what kind of steel that is, but you might heat treat it by using a torch and getting the steel red and then testing it on a magnet. When it's non-magnetic quench it in oil. That may not be the correct hardening sequence for that steel but it probably wouldn't hurt it either. :)
