Texas, baby!
At the gander across the street from Aggieland , here in texas, they have , in the used rack a remmy model 710, looks brand new, in 30.06 , for 199 bucks. they have a beauty of a J.C. higgins/sears/hi standard rifle, in 22 mag, bolt action, long 24 or 26 inch bbl, fantastic shape, for, get this,,,, 119. bucks!!!!! and remember, if you use a Gander mtn card, I think you get an extra 5 or 10 percent off!!!!!

I finally got to go to gander mt. All of their guns/ammo/componets were overpriced. For the most part had a bunch of kids seemed to be "running" the place. Oh, they had a lot of guns and ammo, but their prices were just too high. I'm gonna stick with my local gun shop. They will order anything I want with just a phone call.

The way my local GM works, the used guns are priced by the gunsmith, who is sort of a franchisee within the franchise. If your store's gunsmith overprices stuff, the gunsmith at another store may not. Some will deal, and some won't...

As with all big stores, they have sales regularly. Thats when the good prices pop up.

I've never paid the $150 or so that Dunhams asks for a Mosin Nagant regularly, but have bought a few on sale for $80, same thing with GM.

I do know I had to skip out on a nice pre-64 Win 94 .30-30 with a side mounted Redfield scope for $140 a while back at GM. Of course, when I got paid a few days later, it was already gone :(

I've not heard much positive about the 710. I'd pass. Buy a 700 when you get the money. For a budget gun, think Savage. At least a Savage works.

Yeah, some of these chains ain't all that great. Bass Pro in Katy, Texas is cool, but it's an over-priced yuppy city store IMHO. It's in the big mall there and has one HELL of a lot of overhead to pay for. Sure, they sell a lot of stuff to the weekend outdoorsmen types, bass fishermen, and such urban types. But, smart money looks elsewhere unless they have something on sale IMHO. Even on sale, sometimes you can beat their pricing. If Walmart has what I want, no brainer. ROFL!

Even Academy is a rip on some stuff, for instance, ammo. They have 12 gauge Winchester Xpert steel 2 3/4" threes over there for about 14 bucks a box. Wallyworld has 'em for under 10! And, wallyworld is just down the street from me, gotta drive 40 miles to get to Academy. I sure ain't driving to Katy to buy ammo, can tell ya that! I can generally get decent enough gun deals at small gun shops and gun shows so as to not even look at stuff at the major yuppy type stores unless they're running a sale. There was a sale at Gander not too long ago I heard about, Winchester SX3s on for under 500 bucks. Had I the money at the time, I'd have been tempted by yet ANOTHER friggin' shotgun, LOL!

You didnt know about their layway plan?

I've found some really good deals on used stuff at Gander. I got a nice wingmaster for $175, a High Standard Field King for $200, and I saw a scoped gp100 for $250, but didn't need it. It's hit or miss, but once in a while you can find some real gems. A lot of the time, they have "includes pro plan" written on the tag. Don't let that fool you, the pro plan is always a separate item, and if you insist against it you'll save $20.

I rarely find good used deals at Gander, but it has been done, including a very nice Sig P230. But I always look, because you never know...and there was that day that I found my 91/30 for the same $85 as the carbines.

yep, the absolute best time to go there, is the first two weeks of a new year, in Jan. they are usually looking to move a lot of product out fast.
