A little sawdust and elbow grease for a Colt OP

I ordered some sile grips for my Colt Official police from CDNN for $9.99 - delivery was very prompt. Great price, great service.

Problem was that the grips I received were target grips, honking big thumbrest, lots of girth and a funny looking color.

I contemplated sending them back when my eye fell on a wood rasp.. Light bulb goes off..

I started removing anything that didn't feel right and ended up with a set of grips that looks sort of like a smooth set of factory Python grips. Spent some time with some 100 grit sand paper to smooth things out and remove the last traces of finish. Three or four coats of Tru-Oil and it looks like I'm done.


Don't be afraid to whittle a bit of wood to make things like you want!

I like the old guns too, kinda nice that the OP and the Python share the same action. As much as I like my K and N frame Smiths, something about the old Colts shines.

since the OP is on the same basic frame

as a Python I have had good luck using grips designated for that gun on my OP series guns(an Officers Model Match and a Army Special)

Al: Did you ever see the pseudo-Jordan grip I whittled down for Leslie's 625 Mountain Gun? It started as a Bargain Bin rescue which was horribly oversize in every dimension.

As for pictures of your OP, get Donald to take a few snapshots at the next IDPA match. For that matter, tell Donald to track down Leslie and get a couple of pictures of his 625 MG.
