I know in past posts I have often chided folks who use "non-gun specific" chemicals to clean or lube their guns. This would include things like brake solvents in place of Gun Scrubber or Mobile 1 in place of a specific gun lube. Not that I don't think those are acceptable, but that you had a better chance of getting an effective product with a made-for-guns chemical.

However, I have found a product I think will work quite well in many gun applications--especially those guns that like to run wetter more than dry. I've used it with very good results on my AR-15 as both a cleaner and lube. It seems to do an excellent job of keeping dirt suspended and keeping surfaces slick.

The company that makes this also makes S&W brand gun chemicals. I did some probing, and found that the MSDS for this product and S&W's foaming lube to be identical. I suspect they are the same product packaged differently for different users. In my humble opinion, this might even be better than BreakFree CLP for general gun use.

Just for your info. Act on it or not as you will.

Like CLP, it does not dissolve fouling by chemical conversion such as an ammoniated solvent would. It claims to penetrate fouling, presumably making it easier to remove with brushing. I have noticed some tendency to accumulate less fouling with continued use. However, that's a purely non-scientific observation. Mainly, it makes my AR-15 purr, and most carbon gunk around the bolt and carrier wipe off easily.

My suggestion is to try some. My Home Depot now sells it in small, convenient sized cans. If you don't like it as a gun lube (but I suspect you will) it makes an excellent lube for auto, home, and shop.

Thanks for sharing! I'm always on the lookout for stuff like this.

Add a catchy gun-related name, put it in a tactical-black aerosol can, jack the price up ~voila~ 'commercial' gun cleaning solvent...

The worst part about buying this stuff is going to the local Homie Depot/Menards/Builder's Square and dealing with the issues associated with those stores.
