Why are most .40 bullets in semi-wadcutter form? It seems that most of 9mm and .45 bullets are more rounded on the tip but .40 is always flat nosed.

I'd imagine its to save a little length.

Also, .40S&W is a hugely popular round with police who load hollow point ammo. The flat nose is shaped very similarly to a JHP round. Feed ramps don't have to be polished, etc.

helps retain enough case capacity to drive a 180 grain bullet fast enough to meet required specs and still fit into a 9mm sized gripframe

its how they are with 10mm too. same bullets. usually called truncated FMJ not semi wad. Magtech does use some more pointed FMJ still comes to flat nose. only round nose or ball I have seen is lead.

have yet to experience a jam due to the bullet in 40S&W.

A semi-wad cutter has a flat nose and a sharp shoulder. What you are refering to is just a flat nose or truncated cone.
