If the gun is hot, keep it pointed down range.
My friend was shooting his SKS today. He loaded and chambered a round and let it ride home, but he didn't notice that it didn't go into battery. He pulled the trigger and the FP went forward but the weapon did not fire. He then noticed it was not in battery and pushed it home. The weapon went off, and the bolt handle hit his hand and and jammed his wrist. Fortunately the round went safely downrage. It could be the SKS dod not go into battery because of a worn out recoil spring but I'm not sure. Just a warning to be safe.
