Accurate 1911

I have a Detonics 9-11-01 in .45 ACP built in Pendergrass, Georgia and a Taurus PT1911 in .38 Super. Both are more accurate than I am - the Detonics is simply remarkable.

I think the Taurus is underrated - I've had no problems with mine and it's very accurate. I don't like the flashy graphics; the big TAURUS and the logo on the slide, and I'd prefer one set of narrow-cut serrations, but those are cosmetic gripes. The gun itself is 100% 1911 and I frankly am very impressed with the quality and workmanship. Is it as well put together as my Georgia peach? No, the Detonics is pretty much a custom-built gun in terms of quality, but the Taurus ain't bad...

By their nature, 1911s are inherently accurate weapons. You should be find with any of these although Springfield and Colt are my favorites.

Go for the pt1911ss with the heinie strait8 sights. Off hand, no rest I can do 5 round groups in 2" @25 yards. It is the best bang for the buck 1911 on the market. Why pay over a grand for some other 1911's when you can get the PT for around $600.00. I'm not knocking the 1k+ guns but spend the extra on ammo. 2" may not be great and I'm sure I can do better with a rest but.... I doubt any BG breaking in will give me time to adjust to a rest, so I practice one and two handed standing.

It's is kind of funny. I am a really good shot. I've shot a pistol at 25 yards offhand and had better than a 2-inch, 5-shot group. I've done better than that with a rest, but rarely offhand.

I have to guess that you do not know what MOA means. It means that is the spread at 100 yards. So a 2-inch MOA is under a half-inch at 25 yards. That is very hard to do with a bullet that is almost a half-inch in diameter.

I guess it is a lot easier to shoot good groups on the Net than it is at the range...

my sig 1911, a platium elite, has never ever had a jam,, even with cheap reloads, though i use only the sig made 8 round mags for it,,,, my brazil made springfield gi model works good,, but has jammed along the way, i have a pt1911 from tarus ordered,,, but that sig 1911 is expensive,, but u get what u pay for

I did have the definition of MOA wrong. Thank you for correcting me. I bought my first pistol 4 months ago and have never fired one before I took it to the range, so after going out every weekend and practicing I'm very happy with 2" groups. So if you are ever in western Montana let me know and I would be happy to take you to the range with me. I will not post pics of targets on here because any one can and say any amount of yards they want. (not saying any one lies about how good they are). I have learned a long time ago that just because I or some one I know can not do some thing doesn't mean that there are not others out there that can. Oh and groups are measured from the center to center of the impact points. So even a .50 could have .25" groups, or less.

I do not need good groups on the net. I want them to make sure my family is safe should I ever need to use my pistol in their defence.

I can't tell you what to buy

but what I can tell you is that I am very pleased with my Taurus PT1911.:) It is very accurate and has all of the bells and whistles of much more expensive guns at a fraction of the cost. It might not win a bullseye match out of the box but I see no reason why it couldn't win a local tactical match in the right hands. I also just put money down on a used Kimber Tactical Pro II and while I have not had a chance to shoot it yet I did get the chance to shoot its stainless steel brother. I liked it very much. The guy that owns it likes it even more.:D
