Hello all,
Let me first start off by saying I am an active duty Army Staff Sergeant with a looming deployment to a country ending in "Stan". My Commander is a generous sort and is of the opinion that if you want to add to your issued weapon some different optics or accessories more power to you (a first for me). I am a gun nut, but must say that I am an optics newbie and would like some advice for some optics to replace the CompM4 that would come standard with my issue carbine, since most engagements in the Stan are of a but longer range.
I have been issued the Trrijicon ACOG in the past and love it dearly, but can't help but feel there might be other choices out there that will do the job as well. If you could help me narrow it down it would be very much appreciated.
Requirements:
1. Rugged. ACOG's can take a beating, and I love that about them, any other choices?
2. 5.56mm BDC is nice, no real experience with Mil-dots, but willing to learn
3. Peferably 1-4x, but fixed 4 power is fine
4. Compactness. Not much rail space on my carbine as is at the moment
5. Price. Not trying to break the bank, but I'd rather cry once and all that. Looking for under $1,200.
I looked at the HAMR and can't see it doing anything that the ACOG doesn't. Should I just bite the bullet and get an ACOG? Thanks for any and all advice, guys. Take care.
