A month or so ago I stumbled across a Facebook page called Active Self Protection. I "liked" it and now I get one or two videos sent to my Facebook page per day of actual self-defense encounters from around the world, mostly involving firearms.

This has been very educational. I recommend any one interested in carrying and training with a gun consider getting signed into this. It is free and It has been a real eye opener.

The main thing I have taken away so far is the speed (and ferocity) of most events. It has convinced me that a gun better be recoverable from concealment, instantly, in a ready to fire position. And that practice should include as much or more shooting while moving as while standing still. And ideally the targets (plural) should be moving too. Including shooting within arms length, one handed. It would also be good to train with someone in contact.

This is all stuff I have read about and "knew" before but seeing it for real, one encounter after another makes it really register.

Really it has made me think how poorly prepared a typical "draw form exposed holster, in daylight, and shoot while stationary" shooter would be prepared for many defensive encounters.

Anyhow I recommend you check it out if you want to see lots of real encounters... As I said, it is an eye opener.
