Mods: This isn't a airsoft or pellet gun post. I am just using the price of the "toy" guns for a question about real gun pricing.

I seen this link in another post talking about airsoft and got to wondering. See the picture of the Glock 17 lower in tan surrounded by blue?
Are there japanese/Chinese companies that make clones of some real gun parts also? As in if you have a Glock 19 does somebody make a copy of
the polymer bottoms for replacement? The airsoft guns in those pictures seem pretty accurately made to copy the original real gun. Funny
also is some come out to be close to the price of a real one. Not that link in particular but, I saw another page with a airsoft M4 for almost $2000.

The same goes for pellet guns. There are some Asian companies that make copies of pellet guns that come near to the quality of the more
expensive English made version pellet gun. Of course they change the name and a few minor details but they function pretty similarly. A
trained eye can see and find the differences though. So is it legal to make copies the frames of real firearms or do they have to have a serial
also? I've seen aftermarket barrels but never frames or slides.

I would think that these toy manufacturers would try to tap into the firearms business seeing as how they are making the guns so similar in design
and price. I bought a German .177 pellet rifle for $350 and I never really thought about how much I was spending until I priced a real gun afterwards.
After the scope, mount, muzzle brake, and rifle I was in for almost $600 for that particular gun. That isn't even a real expensive one either. Quite a few
higher end pellet guns cost upwards of $1500-2000.

So I guess in short I wanted to know if there are cheaper clone parts out there and if not then why.

I don't understand what you are asking. Polymer bottoms for a Glock? If you are talking about the frame, they require an FFL.

He's wondering if any of these replacement polymer lowers are made for the real deal, since they seem so close to spec. The short answer is no. An elaboration on the short answer is that airsoft guns function very differently from real guns and are only similar visually. Also it would be much more legally complicated for them to sell the parts for real guns, especially the frame which would have to be transfered through an FFL.

That's not the long answer. That's just an elaboration on the short answer. It gets a lot more complicated than that.

Your best bet is a can of Krylon.

I was just thinking that anybody who has a CNC machine that will mold/cut? plastic can copy
the dimensions and wah la, a new plastic frame. It's hard to believe that a piece of plastic can't
be molded then sold with the company not being liable for the purchasers use/misuse of it.

Is it only the complicated by the frame because it has the serial number on it?

If a airsoft or pellet gun is converted in the aftermarket, by installing a firearm barrel into it,
the manufacturer isn't responsible for that.... or are they in some screwed up way?

I didn't mean "I" was thinking of using a airsoft gun.
I meant that if somebody were to do so, not me for sure, the manufacturer shouldn't be held liable.

Not to derail or go off topic but:
Some heavier pellets from the hi power pellet guns have enough knockdown power to take larger
game such as a bison down. Youtube or Google it.
So there is no need to change anything on those ones. They are actually using bullets and ball
so they really arent exactly a pellet when they get that big.

I don't personally own a Glock but rather a poly Kahr. Inspecting how the frame is made I was thinking,
whats stopping anybody from copying this in plastic or even aluminum. I recall a seeing site where you
send in dimensions for an item and with their CNC machine they would produce it in some kind of plastic
material for you. I think it was for if you had an idea for an invention and needed a scale model of it
or something to that effect.
