Hello, all. I recently decided to change my .45 ACP carry pistols from Glocks (which I like in smaller calibers, but which are just too fat in the grip for me in the higher-capacity .45 ACP models). After trying a bunch of pistols, I settled on the SIG P220 as my desired alternative, and now own (or will shortly own) two of them.

I would like to have hardwood grips on these guns, but the only ones I've found online are Hogue. Has anyone here used their hardwood grips on a SIG? Are they well-fitted? Does the thin edge under the decocking lever stand up to extended use, or does the wood there crack over time due to its thinness?

Also, any alternatives to Hogue? Any other manufacturers/suppliers out there?

The Hogue smooth Coco Bolo wood is ny favorite and I have it on three P220's.

SIG also sells factory wood grips (now made by Hogue) and the other main source is Nill www.nill-grips.com which are extremely well made, perhaps the highest quality ones made, but are a bit too hand filling for my taste.

Lots of folks at SIGforum are enamoured with Nill grips.

They look well made and are very attractive.

Preacherman, make sure your grips will fit properly your Sig. The guns are grip dependent. Make sure there is room for the trigger return spring (on the right side, on the trigger bar) and the mainspring housing. If you have any questions, PM me and I can go through the book and check.

I'm sure the grips work, but always test to make sure. The grips of the Sig ensure that the decocking spring (left grip panel) and the trigger bar spring (right grip panel) remains in place. Grips that don't fit may allow these springs to work themselves out; thereby disabling the particular associated function. At some point Sig widened the grip of the 220 and the aftermarket grips may not fit your Sig. Why not try factory wood grips?

Gary, I can't find any factory wood grips listed - heck, I can't even find P220 grips on their retail price list! Any links or contact points for more information on factory wood grips?

The new production Hogue grips will fit P220's with both the old and new style internals. I carry a P220 every day and have for over ten years. These P220's have always had Hogue wood on them and I have never had a single related problem.
Old style P220 grips will only fit old style guns.
New style P220 grips will fit both old and new style guns.
Just buy recent production and you'll be OK no matter which style P220 you have. :)

Preacherman-
The SIG site frankly sucks. They don't list a great deal of what they sell in the accessory department. You'll need to call them about the grips-

All three of these P220's have factory wood on them...

The one on the left has old style wood and the two on the right have new style wood.
