Toy guns worry NATO Troops!
crazy long address just click here for yahoo news

No, in all seriousness. It seems to me a valid tactic on the part of an insurgency; fill childrens hands with toy guns. You get them shot by the Opposition Force, looks good for you and bad for them. Gets the kids into pointing weapons and fantasizing about shooting the 'enemy', and allows open smuggling of non 'threatening' "toy" weapons when carried by children.
Anyway, interesting.

KABUL (AFP) - The NATO-led force in Afghanistan has urged parents to tell their children not to play with toy guns around military patrols, warning they could be mistaken for the real thing.

The plea comes after a series of incidents in which International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) soldiers, a target of Taliban attacks, have shot and killed civilians fearing they may have been attackers about to strike.

ISAF said in a statement late Thursday that its troops had reported an increase in the number of replica or toy guns being played with by children around military patrols, which was a concern for patrol commanders.

The increase may have come after the just-ended Eid holidays, when children may have been given toy guns as presents, it said.

"Playing with them and pointing them at patrolling ISAF troops is a dangerous practice, which could result in troops mistaking the replica weapons for real ones, and reacting to protect themselves," the statement said.

"I would urge parents to ensure that their children do not play with toy guns around patrolling troops. Some of the toy guns are very lifelike and can easily be mistaken by troops as the real thing," spokesman Major Dominic Whyte said.

ISAF, which has more than 33,000 troops from 37 countries across the country, said this week one of its biggest mistakes last year was that it killed too many civilians as it went after the Taliban and other rebels.

Around 1,000 civilians are estimated to have been killed in Taliban-linked unrest last year, including suicide and roadside bomb blasts carried out by the rebels and foreign force air and ground strikes against suspected militants.

Some of the toy guns do look pretty realistic. Some of the more expensive airsoft guns out there feel and look like the real thing. My cousin who is a cop said if he saw a kid running around with one, he would treat it like a real firearm.

Isn't it SOP to not fire until fired upon in most situations?

Would you really want to be reactive only in a military situation Tactical ninja?

I dont know if you personally share that idea of return fire only but for me I am not sure I could abide by that rule 100%

please be clear

I wasn't saying it was good for the kids to have them, or that fearing them was wrong. It was a joke on the UN for about a half second (that Illinois wouldn't want them to be scared and so . . .ban). But really, if I was in a war fought the way wars will again one day be fought, kids running around with guns would be a death sentence for said kid. The toys would disappear real fast.
That is precisely why it helps the enemy to give toy guns out, or at least encourage their use. Dead kids = NOT winning hearts and minds = less intel for occupying force and more terrorists potentially.

ps - not a real exciting thread, just interesting and gun related, hopefully no one else will respond...and it will DIE
:p

 Kids all over the world play with toy guns. Not everything's a conspiracy against America.

cant u picture a little boy running up and saying " bang bang, i shot you!" with a replica of that james bond gun and sum big fat nato bastard saying " oh no, no u didnt" pointing a Franchi SPAZ 12 down at him.

sorry bad humour I know, but its stupid if they cant tell.

Their not banned in Illinois however I have heard that realistic replicas of guns (such as airsoft) are banned in the city of Chicago.

Chicago is also in illinois

I just read a thread on THR not long ago about how some communities were banning TOY GUNS in ILLINOIS. Not the whole state, in parts of the state.

*drivel drivel drivel********

I would bet if you looked at all the municipal laws nationwide you could say that toy guns are banned in every state using your criteria. Where do you think the 20K+ gun laws on the books came from anyway?

To take a municpal law and make the statement that it applies statewide is pretty close to being an outright lie. We don't accept tactics like that from the antis, yet for some reason we can't be intellectually honest enough to tell the truth when it suits our own purposes.

Propaganda statements like that have no place on THR, or anywhere else on our side of the gun rights debate. If you can't be honest enough to be truthful, if you feel the need to exaggerate and LIE to make your point, maybe THR isn't the forum you should be on.

Waiting for someone to shoot at you is not what a soldier should be practicing. If he points or fails to lower then he should be fair game-and in some cases even if he is carrying a firearm.
Was in Chicago last year visiting our children-glad they are coming back to NC this spring and leaving that "anti haven". wc

false logic

unwind man. . .

you are arguing with yourself. If I knew a Hurricane hit Miami, and a few other cities but not sure which, I could say "A Hurricane hit Florida". Someone in China could say, "Hurricane hits U.S.!" Of course, such propaganda wouldn't be tolerated on the weather channel, much less on The High Road. :barf: What are you really upset about?

No offense to your state. Not a really important point on anything. Lumping me in with some anti's on debate tactics. . . this is my last post on this thread, there's no sense or humor. I recommend a hot bath and bar of chocolate.

I do, sincerely apologize, if there was perceived ill intent, manipulation, or propoganda distribution on my part, regarding facts. Such was not the purpose nor will it ever be.
