I'm flying AirTran to Daytona Beach this week and I am definitely taking a sidearm with me. I know all the rules and laws that apply, my question is which gun to take. My gun of choice is the Kimber Ultra CDP .45, second choice is the CZ PO1 9mm. What I'm concerned about is how secure my gun is once I check it in at the airport, lost luggage, theft, ect. Is it worth the risk to lose the $1100 Kimber or just take the $400 CZ. We stop in Atlanta on the way down, I don't know if we switch planes but we come home nonstop. Do they handle luggage with handguns more securely than regular luggage, are they responsible for the gun once it is declared? Since I already have the Kimber packed in my suitcase, am I worrying about nothing? Mike

im sure all will be fine...so long as you ditch those chromy pieces of scrap, and get yourself a glock ;)

(HALT!! T`WAZ A JOKE!!!!)

i think it will be fine, but if youre really worried about that high dollar Kimber, just take the CZ instead.

No, the luggage is handled the same because the luggage handlers don't know what is inside your suitcase.

Yes, they are responsible for your luggage, but the limits are set by the airline and the FAA. Read Airtran's luggage policy on the limit of their liability.

http://www.airtran.com/policies/general_information.aspx

Liability for loss, delay, or damage is limited unless a higher value is declared in advance and additional charges are paid. Although excess valuation may be declared on certain types of articles, AirTran Airways' liability for lost, damaged or delayed baggage is limited to $3,000 per fare-paying customer for travel solely between U.S. points.

What To Do If The Piece Disappears

Have the serial number(s) and descriptions of your weapons on you, so if they "disappear" you can report the loss/theft to the airline, the FAA Regional Office, and the ATF Regional Office immediately.

My wife has had small jewelry stolen from her checked luggage, so yes, the baggage handlers do look through your bags, and yes, they will help themselves to your things. At least in Los Angeles they do.

Go to Handgunlaw.com and print the law regarding transporting. Highlite the appropriate parts and carry it with you. Make them comply with their laws......... and take the CZ. At least you can sleep at night until it gets recovered.
