I recently purchased a five roung magazine for my AK so that I can use it for hog hunting. I've noticed that when there is only one round left in the mag, the follower does not push the round all the way up against the lip. Could this be a bad follower, weak spring, etc? I've tried pressing down on the follower and letting it back up, but that doesn't work, and the last round is still pretty loose. It will stay in the mag while inserted into the receiver, but it worries me that I may get a double feed or some other undesireable condition while on the hunt.

I cleaned it as soon as I got it because I bought it at a gun show and thought it may be used. It's still doing the same thing though. It looks as if the mag spring was clipped short, but I don't have another five-rounder to compare it.

Is it a standard wide-body magazine, cut short to only hold 5 rounds?

If so, buy a cheap AK mag spring from somewhere and cut it down. Or just buy a 5-round AK mag spring from somewhere else.
