I'm very new to AKs. My rifle came with a thread protector only, so I purchased a Tapco Slot Muzzle Brake. The slots are obviously intended to be on top. When I screw it on, I have two choices....either it lands slots-up but is loose (I think think it would still stay on through firing though) or I tighten to where the slots are not on top (obviously not what I'm going to do). Is this the norm? If so, do I leave it with a little play or do you suggest a little lock-tight? Thoughts?

Sounds normal...

I tighten the brake tight to the sight base, then back off until the spring loaded pin locks the break in the upright / correct position.

(Obvious care to be taken if it appears something isn't aligned...)

Thank you. The pin is definitely in place and preventing significant movement other than a bit of play within the pin notch.
