I was just fondling my new Saiga 7.62x39, and when I pulled the charging handle all the way back, it stayed there (pulled back slowly and released slowly). As soon as I touched it very lightly it slammed home like it should. But my question is, is this normal? It only has 20 rounds through it, so is it a case of needing to smooth itself out? More lube? Or is there something wrong?
 
Way normal operation. When charging, pull to the rear and just let go.

The hammer pushes up on the bottom of the bolt carrier and binds it up on the guard rails if you try to ride it home.

My SAR-1 would do that. I used to do that to help it cool after shooting a lot of rapid fire. The neat thing was that when it was held open like that, I could insert a mag and the bolt would immediately slam shut and chamber a round, ready to go. I know it wasn't designed to work like that, but I thought it was pretty neat anyway.
 
I know I need to get out and shoot it more:eek:. I need to find the time too is all.
 
Good to know it will smoothen itself out, and yes, I know about the BHO. I'll admit, I didn't know when I first got my rifle, but I searched online and figured it out. I find myself fondling my Saiga quite often, hahahaha. That sounds so bad:rolleyes:.

:DLOL. A future conversion is definite. I'm gonna start buying parts little by little. Speaking of buying things little by little, I was gonna buy some East German 30 rounders, are they any good?
 
East German and Russian mags are best (AKM anyway) and bulgarians are not bad either. Chinese mags seem to be good too but are harder to find. STAY WAY FROM AMERICAN MAGS!! Not a big fan of polymer mags, but bulgarian waffles are not bad at all ;)
 
I can't have US made mags, over 10 rounds anyway. Im in NY, in order to have a mag that holds more than 10 rounds, it has to be "pre-ban". So that's why I was looking at the East German mags, I was told they are ALL "pre-ban".
 
I don't think so. I'm trying to think back to how I was holding it, but I can't remember. I doubt I was though.
