I go to the university of alabama and I have permits to carry here in alabama even though I am a non resident. My house which is off campus is somewhat near campus and I walk by dog around the outskirts of school, but I dont usally venture on campus. My question is I know that I have to stay off campus if I am carrying, but do I have to stay 1,000 feet from the universtiy?

Someone on campus a few weeks ago was stabbed in the head, thats why I am asking. There is a lot of crime in and around school. thanks for the help.

According to www.packing.org it isn't illegal to carry on campus but the university may have policies prohibiting guns on campus. If the cops catch you carrying you'll probably get hassled / arrested / possibly expelled. You should probably call the PD and get clarification.

I live about two blocks from the University of Washington and I know I'm well within my rights to carry near campus. Carrying on campus is a no-no unless I want to possibly get fired from my job.

As they say though...concealed is concealed.

There is no state law prohibiting carry on and around campus. However there is probably a school rule making firearms illegal on campus. Near campus wouldn't count.
