Hey team,

Are all the new Ruger GP100s listed as Double Action also capable of single action cocking?

Purchasing ASAP. Anyone who knows, your help is appreciated!

Thanks

If it has a visible hammer spur then yes, it will be capable of single action. Only a bobbed hammer or "hammerless" GP100 will be DAO. Post a model number for us to check if you'd like 100% certainty.

The 1707 will have a single action function. The couple of GP100s I've handled had decent triggers and is a good revolver for DA training but the SA trigger was crisp and good for careful target work.

It would be interesting to find out the percentage of DA revolvers that get shot mostly in single action.

I bet quite a few. I am guilty of it myself. It mostly just depends on the mood I am in at the time. I have recently, about a month ago, only been shooting my SP101 double action only. It does have a hammer spur, but if I ever was forced to use it in a self defense situation, I highly doubt I'd have time to cock the hammer and "aim"

If they have a stiff double action you probably won't use it. Have someone work on it that knows what their doing and you will find yourself shooting more double than single.

After I had a spring kit and trigger job done on mine I shoot it double action all the time. It's a pleasure to shoot. It has a really nice single action trigger now but I still find myself wanting to shoot double action.

I don't think I've ever heard of a GP100 that wasn't double action.

What's interesting to me, is it's always second nature for me to pull the hammer back. I have to be very conscious of wanting to shoot DA.

To answer my own inquiry, I probably shoot DAs in single action mode about 70% of the time. This is partly to maximize accuracy (I need all the help I can get) and partly from habit. Counting the Blackhawks, Single-Sixes and a bunch of C&B revolvers I have and shoot a LOT more single actions so cocking the hammer seems natural.

The DA revolvers we use for home defense are fired mostly double action for training purposes.
