I am looking to buy a new revolver. I want 3'' brl. Really like the SP101. What else should I look at? Blue or stainless ok. .38 or .357 cal. I figure somebody can steer me towards something.
Something that is still in production or easy to find is preferable.
Really not a fan of airwieghts.

Thanks guys

I bought an SP101 with the 3 1/8" barrel for my daugher -- and had to test it extensively, of course. Its the only snubbie in its class that makes it possible to practice with .357s.

I have the Model 60 with the 3" Barrel - it has a plain ramp front sight and the adjustable for Windage & elevation rear sight. - plain black square notch. It comes with a bit larger grips than the "boot" style of the snubbies ( 1 7/8" or 2 1/8" Bbl. Leng. ) in the S&W J-frames. A 60 in this 3" Bbl. Len. is 24 oz. empty. The SP101 is just a tad larger and weighs maybe 2 oz. and a smidge more. I enjoy shooting my all steel 60 a lot, mostly Double Action but it's fine for slow SA as well. It is very handy and has breat balance, and seems to me, natural pointability.

My excuse is this 60 is my grandaughter's birtherday present when she turns 18 maybe younger, heh, she's only 2 yrs old this month. I plan on getting a Model 63 with the 3 1/2" Bbl. that has the non-magnum J-frame so
it;ll be about the same sighting radius - it's the .22 LR version of the 60 called the Kit Gun. Oh, the 60 was the first stainless steel revolver in mass production back in the '60s and called the Chief's Special.

I also have a S&W model 60 with the 3 inch barrel. The gun shoots well for me. I usually shoot 148gr wadcutters but it can handle some of the heavy stuff too. Carries IWB like it isn't there. I like it alot.

I forgot to mention, I usually shoot .38 Spcl +P as well as using it for
HD/SD - easier recoil recovery. If I wanted to shoot .357 Mag on a
regular basis I'd get some Herrett Trooper STocks for it.

While the Ruger is a very good choice you may want to look in the used market. You may find a good used K-frame S&W with a 2" to 3" barrel. The models you would be looking for are 10, 15, 64, and 67 (all 38 Spec.) or 13, 19, 65. and 66 (all 357 Mag). Another advantage of the used market is if you are lucky you may find a Ruger six series (Speed Six, Security Six, or Police Service Six). While I'm normally a Colt and S&W revolver man I occasionally kick myself for passing on a Ruger Security Six many years ago (close to 30 years).
