CnR... Thanks for the tip. I am applying for my C&R FFL and hope to get it soon :) Seems like everything I like is from the 1930's back Except that Keltec Sub 2K I still want but cannot find locally

I got swindled on my mas as $356 in the great state of NJ so grab em.

Uhm, if it's in great condition it isn't all that bad of a price. If you look at Gunbroker they can go pretty close to that and sometimes more. Based on my research I just (yesterday) paid pretty close to that and didn't have a problem with it at all. I limited myself to choosing one locally so that I could inspect it completely before parting with cash, and that certainly limited my choices, but once you consider avoided shipping costs and transfer fees I did okay. It's a slick rifle, and while I would have preferred to pay $175 for it, I feel it is worth my expenditure. Ammo can be difficult, but only if you have a notion of being able to walk into a shop and buy it off the shelf.

Both of those rifles are Berthier carbines. They should be chambered in 8mm Lebel. If the barrel has an N stamp on it by the chamber, they've been chambered / proofed for the spitzer bullet load (higher chamber pressure).

That said, there is no way to tell what your rifles are chambered in without physically examining them to make sure they haven't been rebarreled/rechambered.

Unlikely that they would be 7.62x54 however.

I have one of those that my grandfather brought home from Europe. Show just below the MAS

follow up....

The sport version of the carbine works beautifully and is 8mm Lebel (8x50)
It make a tremendous BOOM and puts nice holes in the target. I would hate to have been on the receiving end of that round! The original carbine has a great action, but the barrel is worn. I have not fired it even though I did find the N stamp on the barrel. She is an old relic and will be relegated to wall hanging status.

I found Privi Partizan 8mm Lebel at Midway for $23/box of 20. It is pricey (compared to my Tok or the 12 ga, but I only shot 10 rounds through it so far. I had to be nice and wait for the guy next to me to finish firing his 1911 and reload as every time I lit off the Berthier it caused him to flinch :D It is LOUD and has a great flame front coming out of the barrel :D:D

Now to find that MAS-36!
Or to get a K98, Mosin, Enfield, and a Springfield to set up a "Great War" collection...

Now to find that MAS-36!

Prices seem to be all over the place on the MAS 36. I did research before I bought mine and have done some since. No matter what, prices have risen considerably in the last five years. I limited myself to buying one locally, and I have only seen two of them in the past five years. That said, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one over the net form someone like J&G Sales or Sovereign Gun, if they had them.

A good buddy of mine is at the Creek this weekend (I couldn't go and even had a spot on "the line") who will be scarfing up 7.5 French for me.
