Hi all. First post and let me say I truly appreciate all the info on this site.

I have a single record listed with the state for an incident that occurred during my divorce a few years ago. I was under a domestic no contact order (not a full blown district court restraining order) and made a dumb phone call. I was arrested and charged with DISORDERLY CONDUCT/DOMESTIC (as listed on the documents) and plead nolo at the recommendation of my lawyer. Let's face it, I was dumb enough to call her knowing full well it could bite me. Since then, all orders were dropped and everyone is friendly again. There is no mention or assertion of physical abuse or threats anywhere in the case. Am I likely to get denied for a firearms purchase? Live in RI if that makes any difference.

TIA

Go to a gunshop and ask to look at a #4473 form. Then read the instructioms on the back. I think you'll find your clean.

pcosmar, damn skippy. You're absolutely right.

I've looked through a whole bunch of court cases and there seems to be a distinction between Disorderly Conduct/Domestic and Domestic Abuse cases. That in and of itself may mean I'm clear.

I have also read some of the legalese of the actual Lautenberg docs and it is repeatedly stated that the act: "prohibits gun ownership by any person who has ever been convicted of a misdemeanor involving the use or attempted use of physical force, the threatened use of a deadly weapon against a spouse, child, intimate partner or other cohabitant".

I'll talk to my local shop and see what they have to say. Thanks for the replies thus far.
