Am I crazy?

A while back there was a thread about someone starting to import berdan primers, and RCBS sells a berdan decapper so I started thinking. That usually leads to big trouble, spending money or both.

Since that thread, I started keeping all my berdan primed brass just in case.

So, am I crazy?

Why...??? When brass is so cheap and at times (like at the range) is free. If you accidently get one mixed up the rest you could damage a die. Not worth it.

I'd toss 'em. I had one slip through the inspection process and it did a number on my decaping die!!

Any I find go straight to the trash.

The bushmaster is right. Beside most berdan primed ammo is cheap enough not to even bother to reload.

I wasn't paying enough attention when I sorted some range brass, and I didn't pick out a piece of Berdan primed brass, and consequently trashed my decapping die.....

Anyways - I'll speak in favor ... but let me qualify that!

I cast rifle bullets for .303 Brit and .308. Regarding the former - I have a boatload of cases - Berdan. My only ''good'' brass in Boxer is limited in qty - that is used for hunting reloads with 180 grn softpoints.

My Berdan Milsurp stuff gets decapped by either a Lyman ''gadget'' or, a hydro-punch dealie I have. Not all deprime but - many will. I also have still a useful stock of suitable size berdans from way back .. and IIRC Old Western Scounger can still supply them.

In my case - no mix-ups - all Berdan .303 Brit is kept separate.

I used to use (and load) 9mm Berdan because I had 1,000's of primers ... but now - too much hassle!

All depends on cal IMO.

By a vote of 4 to 1 the consensus is I am crazy. I've always suspected as much.

To this point I've mostly saved Swiss GP-11 and some Yugo 8mm. The Swiss stuff is so good it almost makes me cry to think about throwing it away. Unfortunately the GP-11 isn't as cheap as most surplus.

I think I'll keep saving the stuff. When I croak it will annoy the kids to have to deal with the crazy on man's stuff. Payback.
