-As a state senator, he (Obama) opposed letting people use a self-defense argument if charged with violating local handgun bans by using weapons in their homes. The bill was a reaction to a Chicago-area man who, after shooting an intruder, was charged with a handgun violation (CBS News 1/17/2007).
So if a person defends their life against an intruder intent on harming them or their family, and they use an illegal gun, they can be charged with murder? And have no right to self-defense?
