While checking on the Will Hayden/Sons of Guns criminal case in LA, I also saw a few items about the other well known unscripted TV series: American Guns.
Media reports say the Wheat Ridge CO retail location was raided by ATF in early Apr 2015. The Wyatts also had serious IRS problems.
To my limited knowledge the Gunsmoke store is still closed.
:uhoh:
Any CO area forum members or former Gunsmoke customers know why the shop closed or what caused all this federal heat/LE action?

According to reports one of the people at the shop attempted to sell an antique Colt that had been stolen from a museum in New Mexico. A viewer recognized the gun and alerted the authorities. Then there were the problems with the IRS which included a claim they made that several guns had been stolen (the upshot being the IRS believed they were sold but the tax wasn't paid).

I don't know if any of this is true but that's what I've read.

Stolen revolver....

I was unaware of the stolen revolver story.
A media article stated Rich Wyatt only claimed a personal income of approx $10,000.00 in 2007. :uhoh:
The IRS was involved over that point and a few other accounting/business issues with Wyatt's company/properties.

I don't know the guy personally, but he doesn't have the best reputation according to more than a few things I have read about him over the years.

If the things listed in this article are true, it look like a classic tax fraud case:

" Over a five-year period, the highest paid person on the staff is shown to be Matthew Meece, who brought home a whopping $13,157.15 in 2007. Reported income for Rich and his wife, Renee, was less than $10,000 cumulatively during that stretch. Yet somehow, in 2012, they were able to buy a house in Evergreen for $678,000, with Renee paying $278,000 of that herself. She's also said to have purchased two Florida condominiums for a total of $338,000 despite reported adjusted gross income of $3,491 and $3,390 for the years 2008 and 2009, respectively.

That's not all. The affidavit, which is 35 pages long, lists plenty about a lavish lifestyle and fancy cars that don't jibe with the comparatively tiny amounts of moolah the Wyatts reported to the I.R.S."

CO tax laws, incorporated....

I'm not a CO resident and I don't know the tax laws there but is it possible Wyatt tried to seperate himself from the LLC or corporation with his personal taxes?
Does CO have state income taxes? Wouldn't that be even more legal/tax woes?

Also, was Meece the heavy set gunsmith with glasses who wore a big Ruger GP100 on his hip?
He was good TV. :D

After all, it's not like they were spending huge amounts of money on clothes for the female members of the family to wear on camera............. :uhoh:
Watched a couple of episodes, found something better to watch in that time slot.
Didn't take much effort.

Someone tried to sell THEM a stolen museum gun, they declined, a viewer recognized it and called the popo.

That's backwards from the way I heard it but what do I know. And please, let's not use gang slang here. Our image is important. I don't want us talking like a SWAT unit either. Not insulting you. Just asking to help keep this place looking respectable. I just wouldn't want someone surfing by and thinking this was a hangout for gangsters to talk about the guns they use.

5-O be creepin yo....

Yeah, be cool ....
Eric Holder has a lot of free time on his hands now... :D .

Really, I doubt any gangsters would be lusting after a museum grade historic revolver, .

That just seems odd.. .

What I read was, "...a man identified later as Wylie Newton attempted to sell an antique Colt pistol that had been stolen from a museum in New Mexico." I assumed the man worked for the shop. Maybe not. Like I said. I'm no expert. Whatever the case I don't remember anything about gangsters.

This is the gangsters post. If gang members don't clean guns or use holsters, I doubt they cruise the gun-tactics forums either.
