ammo pricing question

I simply don't shoot now... or very, very little, anyway. Shooting has always been expensive, but now, insanely so. And while I have a little bit of ammo stored up, I don't want to shoot it up, because I don't know when... or if I will be able to replace it.

I just did an ammoseek search for .22lr ammo..... egad. I think that I can officially say I'm done buying ammo of any kind for the foreseeable future.

I do not see the root cause of the shortage being the Virus. The Civil unrest is getting out of control every day. We have not even made it to the elections yet. After the elections the rioting could very well become much worse or on the other hand, gun restrictions up the rear end. Obviously we have to put up with so much crap even under normal times and every 4 years when a election comes around and brace for yet another shortage. And 4 years goes fast. No I do not have a crystal ball, but I can see a dark could in the sky and will not wait until a downpour to buy a umbrella.
You have two choices, wait and hope. Or buy now and be prepared. (if you have not already stocked up). Third choice is to just sit back and call a cop if you need help

If you do not have ammo, then sell thy cloak and buy some.

The virus has cut production. Government contracts take priority, further reducing the supply. The rioting may have interfered with distribution but it has most definitely increased demand.
And, yes, I don't see any improvement in these situations after the election. I'm just afraid it will get worse, regardless of who wins.

I can't see the demand doing anything but increasing. I wonder how this will play out with the many vendors. Last hear I had 37 orders from Target Sports alone. Well worth the $99.00 membership fee I paid. This year I had 28 orders and was on track to surpass the year before. But that has stopped, They are out of just about everything. So will I renew my membership? Same with memberships at indoor ranges. Probably cancel them and just keep my outdoor membership. Not sure how long the indoor ranges will stay open anyway.
Target Sports sent me a email. Which stated that since I am a member I will go to the head of the line with other members and any ammo I put in a "Notify" when available, I will go into the head of the line and they will hold the ammo for 3 hrs. Yet the price I am sure will be so high as not be worth it to me at this point. I have a large inventory of ammo now. Just do not shoot it.

I may have to dig out all my reloading equipment (hopefully, my dies are not all rusted out). Problem is, it's been stored in a very rough shed for some years now. Some of my dies may have gotten wet. Otherwise, dry, but still exposed to our HIGH humidity for a long time. I hope powder and primers are still good.

Hmm, haven't seen any rioting in North Carolina since end of May..and of course Charlotte in the past. Kenosha and Portland..bad but even here in Denver, demonstrations for sure but the new CU students are more concerned about partying and getting sick than any demonstration.

It’s not all new gun owners to be honest, it’s a lot of “the sky is falling” people who’ve been through this enough times to know better.

6 months ago 9mm was roughly $150 a case and 223/556 was $180/300 (steel vs brass) and readily available from every online ammo distributor. There’s no reason for most people who’ve been involved in shooting for any length of time to not have some ammo a few months into this panic.

Just like pretty much every other time, we’re our own worst enemy when it comes to ammo shortages with the panic buying. I’m all for hoarding ammo, but it makes a whole lot more sense to do so when it’s cheap and plentiful.

Some people are gambling that guns and ammo will be outlawed all together. They are doing the multigenerational stockpiling thing.

If the people who have screwed up 2020 so far get their way, our freedom is at risk, which means A1 and A2 are at risk.

I don't blame a person for looking at the trajectory of chaos and decide to stockpile even as prices rise and supply is down. 80 cents a round might be a great price next year.

I continue to buy as my budget allows as I did all of 2019 but I refuse to go into debt because of fear. I am worried about our freedom and America as we know it but I tell myself regularly not to get caught up in the hysteria.
