In all the years I've been buying ammo nobody has ever asked me a single question regarding my purchase. Suddenly the local Dicks Sporting Goods is asking me whether I'm a citizen and asking me to attest to it by checking a box on a screen. Several questions: Would they still sell me the ammo if I checked 'no'? 2. How do even know people are answering honestly? 3. If they are indeed verifying it against other personal information, what do they do with the purchase information? I live in NH. Apart from Soviet style dictatorships such as MA, IL, or CA, is this the norm?

It's just a Dick's corporate thing. I picked up some ammo a few weeks ago from them, and they asked if I was a citizen. I lied and said yes, because I'm a bad person. They didn't ask for a birth certificate or passport, either.

I wonder if they'd still sell to you if you weren't. There are no laws prohibiting sales of firearms or ammunition to lawful resident aliens ("green card" holders), at least, in those jurisdictions that allow US citizens to purchase and possess.

Don't forget NJ. I would imangine that it is to keep ammo from going north of the boarder to those wild Canadians. While it might not be contraband to take it out of the US, it might be a problem to take it into Canada. Only the Department of Justice can legally smugle guns accross the boarder to drug lords.
