Help, I just pulled out a few guns out of the safe to take and shoot a couple of guns at the range today. Well anyhow, I get to the range load up the mags for the few guns that I brought with me and start shooting.

I get to my AMT backup 9mm, load a mag up and rack the slide. I then decide I wanted to do a little more work with my Colt Commander, so I drop the mag out of the AMT and go to rack the slide to empty the chamber but NO GO, the slide will not come back. I can only get the slide to come back maybe about 1/4 inch and that's it. I tried and tried to get the slide to rack with no luck. Now I have a gun with a round in the chamber and no way of securing it or clearing the chamber. Any suggestions. I didn't shoot the AMT for fear of not knowing what would happen. Any suggestions would be greatly appreicated as to how to fix this.

Locked

Hi Hipower,

Sounds like the barrel isn't unlocking from the slide. Not familiar with the 9mm backup, but in that caliber, it about has to be a variation of the locked breech/tilting barrel design. Try pushing down on the rear of the barrel as you pull on the slide to see if you can force the barrel down out of vertical lockup. Unless a broken part has wedged itself between the bottom of the barrel and the frame, it should unlock.

Luck!

This has happened to my Star PD .45 ACP when CCI aluminium cased blazer ammo was used.
