I just wanted to set the record straight. I had posted a while back about 223 loaded with 55g SP and H335. The Speer manual stated max 26g with small rifle magnum primers, whereas the Hodgdon site said standard small rifle primers. Hodgdon also said 24.3 (I'm doing this from memory) and Speer said 26 garins. I took the Hodgdon advice and at 24g was OK but moving slightly higher - 25g to 25.5g I was seeing severe over pressure signs to the point of blowing out primers. Well I contacted Speer and had a fairly long discussion with them explaining what I've said above. The fella I spoke with said they always recommend magnum primers with ball powders. I tried the CCI 450 primers and am now shooting quarter sized groups at 100 yards with 26g of H335 under a 55g bullet. No over pressure signs at all. Why this works I'll never know but it does and Speer was right after all!
I emailed them also telling them they were right too.
Whew - now I feel better.....
