A friend of mine has a '90 Anaconda and was curious about a couple of its features. I told him I didn't know for sure, so I would ask those who are more informed.

It is the 4" version and has the ported barrel. How can he tell if it is factory ported, and not some gunsmith job? The serial # maybe? Also how rare were the factory ported barrels percentage wise? More valuable with the ported barrel?

Also what were the original sights like? His rear sight is black (no outline) as is the front (no red or white ramp, nor space for insert). Is this factory, or were they changed?

Thanks in advance, Philoe

I am getting the '90 from the dated owners manual included in the Anaconda's original box.

Go to www.proofhouse.com and look up the serial numbers for Colts. That will give you the exact date of manufacture instead of assuming the manual in the box is original with the gun.

Do you have a number where you could call Colt and ask them? I've done that with other gun makers, Smith & Wesson, Springfield Armory and Ruger.

I know about contacting the manufacturer.

I was just hoping that somebody out there could give him an idea on whether those sights are factory. All black do not coincide with what I have seen on other Anacondas. (But this does appear to be an early model.

Also maybe a detail in the ported barrel that would let him know if it was factory.

Thanks

There's no public records published as of yet on the King Cobra's or Anacondas. Sorry, you'll have to call Colt Defense 1-800-241-2485. It's free and painless.

Do you have pictures of the sights ?

Front sights are available in different colors and easy to change out. 2 tapered pins and they are changed. Rear sights are just as easy (1 screw). Is there any name on the rear sight ?

Elliason Sights

Sorry so late to reply. Buddy was out of town.

The rear sight is Elliason. Looking around online I see that this was what the factory was putting out.

As for factory porting. I think the custom shop only did 6" and 8" inch jobs during 92-93, 95-96. This example looks factory, but it is a 4". (porting helped the flash and recoil considerably)

He is going to have to pony up the bucks and get a factory letter to be sure.

Thanks for the replies.

To the best of my limited knowledge, The adjustable Elliason sights were never standard on the Anaconda.
Colt did offer them on different revolvers as an option though.
