Ankle carry-642 vs. G26

Need some wisdom from the high road here...
Occasionally, ankle carry is the best way for me to carry. I know it isn't the best, but once in a while, it just works.
I have been using a S&W 642 with laser grips in this role.
Problem is, I'm just not a revolver person...don't shoot it well, don't like shooting it.
I'm thinking about a Glock 26.
Anyone carry a G26 on an ankle? How does that work for you?

Please don't argue about whether ankle carry is a good idea or not.
 
With the flat floor plate and a Galco Ankle Glove ankle holster the G26 is not bad under Levi relaxed fit jeans. Dockers and slacks are OK also.
 
Hmmm, have never looked at a G36.
Weight is not so much an issue for me, as size. I'd really like to move to a semi-auto, though, 9mm minimum.

Massad F Ayoob, the noted weapons/tactics expert(and THR.org member, ;)) wrote in the past that small frame DA/DA only revolvers work best in ankle carry. Ayoob explained that dirt/grit/body sweat/etc can get into the ankle rig and may damage your compact semi auto. DA/DA only revolvers can take these rough conditions better than many pistols. Now the Glock 26 has a great rep for rugged use but in general, I'd stay with the J-frame S&W .38spl. :D

J frames are the guns that are "carried a lot and shot a little". I agree. I have a 642 with laser grips ans it is the gun I carry 99% of the time. Can I hit the bullseye every single time with it and 15 yards? Nope, but I can quickly put 5 rounds into the chest area at 15 yards. The Glock is too bulky for ankle carry, unless you're only using it in the car when you aren't walking. I enjoy shooting my semi auto's far more then I do my 642, but for light weight, ease of carry, it's a no- brainer.
 
Never tried the Glock but I did do an S&W M&P compact in ankle for awhile but I found it too bulky and it even would print in my loose jeans, I traded that and went back to my Sig P239 and I love it. The only thing is as stated above if you ankle carry a semi-auto plan on cleaning it alot, I clean mine every 2-3 days. I at times do think if I still had my Detective Special that I stupidly sold way back when I'd probably go back to that for ankle carry.

Wrench, Wrench, Wrench. What's to hate? Shoots good, looks good, dependable, easy to carry. Whatsamatta? C'mon, you can tell us. We're your friends. Honest.

The corners of the G26 will "print" more noticeably against the fabric. Greater width over a larger area will cause more bulge. Been there, done that, went back to snubbies, though I carry the larger, heavier SP101 in an ankle rig. A J-snub will conceal better than my Rugers.

Yes, a G26 will work in an ankle rig, but anyone who looks for an ankle rig will spot it more readily if it contains a G26 than a J.

Edited to add: My actual experience was with the identically-sized G27.
 
as far as pocket or ankle carry i think a j frame is way smaller than a baby glock
but i think a baby glock is way easier to shoot
 
If you don't shoot a Revolver good then you should shoot a Revolver more! :)

I carry a 442 on my ankle, if it's not in my pocket, as I think that Revolvers still maintain an "edge" in reliability when compared to smaller autoloaders. The Glocks are good "bottomfeeders" but if you've ever carried a gun on your ankle for a day you would be amazed at the amount of "crud" that a gun picks up. That "crud" can and has affected the smooth operating of a few "bottomfeeders".

Also, the 642 is lighter. I'd suggest changing the stocks to a "Boot Grip" for ease of concealment and more practice. Just my $0.02.

Well, I'm really feelin' the revolver 'love' from you guys...

I will agree that it is a great little gun to carry, but I always think that if I actually had to shoot it, that would not be such a pretty picture.:uhoh:
It's the only revolver I own, except for a cap'n'ball, (which I also never shoot)

Maybe I will buy the Glock anyway, and keep the 642.:rolleyes:

I really do appreciate you guys' help in this matter.
Sigh.
