I e-mailed Olympic Arms the following:

" I see that you now make a complete post-ban version of the OA-93 with a 16" barrel, and that you have pre-ban uppers with a 6.5" barrel.
But do you still make pre-ban uppers with the full 16" barrel? I have a pre-ban rifle that I would like to convert to use an ACE folding stock, but I can't
do that without an upper like your OA93."

Here's "Skip" 's customer friendly response...

"You must have a pre-ban lower for any of the "OA-93" products that's the law
thanks Skip

Did this guy even READ my question? :cuss: Or did he just see the words "pre-ban" and "post-ban" and assume I was "just another clueless idiot wanting an illegally configured post-ban rifle?" :banghead:

I responded, and asked him basically what I just commented above, and gave him a more explicit "idiot" version of my question, then told him "never mind" anyway.

Oly's reputation for quality puts them at the bottom of the barrel in brand names anyway, so I'm sure he's just saved me a lot of headache.

If I want a folding stock, I'll get a "ZM" :D

I went into the factory to check them out once. The sales rep I spoke to was a snotty, opinionated kid who wasn't really interested in answering my questions as much as he wanted to dispense his opinions.

I'm not surprised at your experience.

Just felt I had to give credit where credit was due.....

I just contacted Oly to ask some questions regarding a 9mm upper for an AR-15 and I received a very quick and concise response that addressed all of my questions. I was pleased.

Not saying that you don't have a right to be torqued off because I sure would, I am just saying I had a pleasant response.

By the way Oly Arms offers discounts to Type 3 FFLs. Just thought I would let you know.

Thats interesting... I hope all of them aren't asses.

I have a customer looking at their PCR-40, actualy 4 of them. I have heard good things about Oly in the past... lets hope this isn't the new trend.

BTW, My cutomer is looking for 4 pistol caliber carbines.... so far I have found:

Oly PCR-40
Ruger PC-4
Kel-Tec Sub-2000
Beretta CX4
H&K UMP40

If you guys can think of something I left out let me know, I like to present them with several options... It MUST be in .40S&W

Thanks!!

Sales/office people come and go. Some are helpful; some are idjits. Sometimes you contact a company and they're as helpful as can be; other times it's the opposite.

It can be frustrating, but if some company has a product you want, you just gotta keep on trying...

Cslinger: Do you have any idea how much the discount is, and does it apply to all non-FFL required parts?

Kharn

It's $100 bucks off on uppers and like $15 bucks off on their STEN mags converted for the 9mm upper.

I am going to call Rock River Arms and see if they do the same as it seems their uppers are quite a bit cheaper.

The Oly upper comes with one mag and is $595 or $495 with the discount.

I assume it doesnt apply to the rifle kits (due to dealers not being able to order them without a lower)?

$15 bucks off on their STEN mags converted for the 9mm upper.

Are they still doing these conversions? I had heard from somewhere ( I can't remember exactly where) that Oly had stopped modifying Sten mags because they no longer met the BATF criteria of being able to be used in the original weapon.

I'll go ahead and send Oly an Email concerning this.

Even if they did, Olyarms users could easily go to the SOCOM block.

Ok..as soon as I got done with this post I emailed Olyarms and got a reply this same evening.

My Question...

Good Evening,

I had heard a rumor that Olyarms was discontinuing the modification of 9mm Sten magazines for use with 9mm uppers due to them not being BATF compliant.

Is this true or just a rumor?

Thank You,
Kelly Watkins

Response recieved...

Rumor, rumor, rumor. They are not permanently altered as per definition provided by the BATF. How did that one get started. Thanx for asking first. D

Good Shooting
