Since the die question had already been answered, in the stuff that was given me was a box of 100 454 primed cases new.

Now the 454 is a longer case that the 45lc, but could you use a case trimmer to shorten the case to use as 45lc?

The 454 does have a smaller primer than the 45lc though.

Or would it be better just to sell the box of primed cases.

Thanks for the help.

are you sure it has a smaller primer? i dont have my book but i was almost posative they are both large pistol primed.

some trimmers cannot be used if the case is already primed as a heads up;) (LEE trimmers for example)

.454's are normally primed with Small Rifle primers.

Trimming them will give you .45 Colt length cases all right.

But they will have a different powder capacity then . 45 Colt cases because of the much heavier .454 case construction.

What with that, and the Sm Rifle primers, plus the very high price of .454 cases, you would be way ahead to sell them for what they are.

See if you can find someone (maybe here on the board) who wants to trade some new 45 Colt brass for your 454 brass. The 454 brass usually costs almost twice as much as the Colt brass. You might come out ahead on the deal and make two people happy.

I agree, you will probably be able to trade 100 .454 cases for 200 .45 Colt cases since the .454 Casull cases are already primed and SR primers are hard to find right now. Give it a try on the "Reloading Component Sales" forum.

Good luck with the Sale/Trade
