Even the police chief is against it.

Cronin said a gun buyback program may not be a good route to reduce gun violence, expressing skepticism about how well it has worked in other cities.

He said studies into buyback programs have not endorsed them.

"They don't recommend it as an effective measure," Cronin said. "I go by the state of the art in research."

I think they're useful but not for their intended purpose. What else are you going to do with old worthless junk guns that are no longer safe to shoot?

We need to keep as many guns in circulaiton as possible, if you have a junker, fix it, or give it to friend who can fix it but doesn't own one.

there are too few guns in circulation for us to be melting down any of them.

even if the gun is only reliable as a single shot, thats one shot more than a non gun owner had prior.

stand on principle, guns should not be destroyed.

I was thinking more along the lines of a Clerke revolver made out of pot metal and other poorly designed guns with no collector value.

the problem becomes where do you draw the line, lorcins? ravens? jennings? H&Rs that are a bit worn? Iver Johnsons that need too many parts to be economical?

If it is capable of projecting a bullet in a safe manner, or can be modified or repaired to project a bullet in a safe manner, then we need to keep it around.

if its not a viable piece and cannot be made to safely fire, hang it over the mantle or use it as a desk ornament.

if you play the games of the gun grabbers, even if you have an alternative adgenda and are ripping them off, you make them feel like their actions are supported by the community. Don't give comfort to the enemy, don't give them the satisfaction of counting your gun in their 'sucessfull gun buyback drive'

if no one plays their games, we win.
