Anyone know what the angles are supposed to be on Shooting Star followers?
All of a sudden,I am having problems with the last rd. FTF[live round stovepipe] but not every mag. Last week they all worked fine and this week,I had about 6 FTF's.
New Wolf springs in them[about 5 firings] and the mags. are clean.
I sent an E-mail to CMC and asked what the design angles should be,but they never answered me.
I checked the angles on all the mags that worked well so I could tell if the ones that didn't work where out of spec.
The angles are all over the map,no two are the same. I know that there is an angle that the leafs are supposed to be set to, but can't find out what they should be
Thanks

Rideover Feed Woes

Howdy Ken,

Try lowering the bottom leaf of that Devel follower a little to get
the nose down a little. What's probably happening is that the smooth follower top is allowing the round to slide forward a little before it gets
the butt-end up in time, and the slide is catching it right on the edge of the rim. if the stovepipe is high...most of the cartridge stickin' out of the port...
that's probably it. A low rideover feed with most of the round inside the port indicates that the slide caught it in the extractor groove.

On the Metalform 8-rpund mags with dimpled followers...they're still too short for good stability, and the dimple actually works to nose-dive the last round more readily with those because the dimple catches the rim and the back leg isn't stable enough to keep it from rockin' forward and down.

7-round magazines with flat, dimpled followers and Wolff springs...if the gun won't run with that combo, there's somethin' wrong besides the mag.

Luck!

Now for the Rest of the Story

Okay...had to run before I could finish.

CMC couldn't tell ya the spec angles on the followers because they probably don't know. They don't make'em...and they don't make the magazines. They probably don't even assemble their mags any more.
They get'em from a vendor like everybody else...Likely Metalform.
Shooting Stars have the two distinctive holes in the base...and that's a
dead giveaway for a Metalform magazine. Not sure about Powermags, but my guess is that Metalform makes those too.

You may need to play with the top leaf on that funky follower too...
Might help...Might not.
