Another rim fire comparison…. Ruger Mark III vs Browning Buckmark.
Note: These are the only 2 rim fire pistols I own and can speak to my own personal experience with these guns. I have fired other semi-auto rim fire pistols, but when I think it come to my choice of the top 2 it would be these two firearms.
I have recently picked up a Mark III pistol from my local gun shop and wanted to compare the 2 pistols in the disassembly and re-assembly of the firearms. Each person will have their own opinion of which rim fire semi-auto pistol is their favorite. In spending some time getting use to the disassembly and reassembly of the pistols there are some major advantages and disadvantages of each pistol.
Buck Mark
Advantages:
Manufacture recommends that you do not disassembly the pistol for cleaning. In having both side of the bolt open makes it easy for cleaning with a tooth brush to clean the bolt face and extractor area.
Disadvantages:
Not taking it fully part. You are not able to do a good bore scrubbing from the rear of the gun with a standard push rod. You can get around this by using a bore snake.
Mark III
Advantages:
Able to fully disassemble for cleaning.
Disadvantages:
Issues in taking part and putting back together for people not use to putting it back together.
The one major flaw I think in both firearms design is that the both require tools to take apart and put back together. The Buck Mark requiring a Allen wrench to take a part and re-assemble the pistol. The Ruger the first several time a hard plastic hammer and a brass punch. This should loosen up over time, but so far my Ruger has required me to hammer the bolt pin out and in, in order for it fit into the pistol. My personal opinion on guns needing tools if they are play toys for plinking and things like that I have no problems. But, for real everyday use pistols like the Glock, M&P, and XD as examples there is no tool needed to take down the pistol. I personally think all semi-auto pistols should be this way to make it easier for an average person to easily understand their firearm much better, and make them a smarter and safer shooter.
Now, when it comes to the pistols themselves I have come to my own conclusion of which one I prefer is the Browning Buck Mark for the way it feels and the trigger out of the box. The reason I really like the Ruger is that I have always been a fan of the way the Luger looks and felt but don’t feel like spending a lot of money on one of those guns. Like I said everyone has their own opinion on which is their favorite gun on the way they shoot and trigger. I’m not trying to nick pick the gun but look at from a common gun owner. I leave the nick picking of the guns to the more H.E.R.O. ( Humongously Enlarged Rectal Opening) type people.
