I have always been an iron/peep sight shooter. Eyes are not so good any more. I know nothing about rifle scopes...so, what size of rings do I need for the subject rifle for 3P a d prone? How do I measure the receiver to determine what mm size I need? What else do I need to know/learn about this?

I have no scope; before I get one, I need to know the "how" before the " what". I'll probably only be shooting at 50 and 100 yds.

They had a aluminum rail for them, think you may need that to use a normal scope.anxchutz used to sell rings, should be the same as the 54-64 series to.

How do I measure for rings, put a caliper in the receiver dovetails?

This rifle is for a different league of shooting than I am accustomed to, but I think the answer would first require specifiying the intended use for the newly-scoped rifle. If there is a specific competition discipline in mind, say rimfire silhouette, I would first check the rules and see whether there are any equipment limitations.

And then, given that the rifle in question is top-notch, I would then recast the question as 'what scope is considered best these days for rimfire silhouette -- or whatever, and within whatever price/weight limitations apply?'

I like BKL rings they have several different heights and styles.

Thanks for the link. As I said earlier, I will probably only shoot at 50 and 100 yd. Mostly for my own enjoyment from bench; maybe later for prone. When I slide off the scope and put on the Olympic peep (irons) will the scope be repeatable within a couple of clicks after replacing?

My grandson used the 1813 for several years and was nationaly ranked in the 50's in 3P in the Jr. OLYMPICS, in th 1990s so I know it's a good rifle. He was good enough that he could tell when I switched ammo within 3 shots. Shame he quit shooting.

Now, grandpa is going to get some sunshine on the 1813.

I wondered about this too -- I have an 11mm Lothar Walther peep on my informal target rifle and have never had the nerve to take it off after zeroing.

My SWAG is that it is like Weaver/Picatinny dovetails, where you can get into the ballpark but will likely need some adjustments.

FWIW, Warne 11mm QD rings advertise return to zero by using their levers as indexing guides (BTW, the shiney recoil keys are removable to fit bases without cross-slots):
