Here is the response from the desk of Obama's very own puppet - Missouri's Claire McCaskill.

December 29, 2012

Dear Mr. -----,

Thank you for contacting me regarding the recent shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, as well as gun control policy and gun safety. I appreciate hearing from you and welcome the opportunity to respond.

On Friday, December 14, 2012, a gunman entered Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, and began shooting teachers and students before taking his own life. This horrific tragedy took the lives of 27 people, including 20 children seven years of age and younger. As a mother, I'm horrified and stunned by the senseless violence against innocent children and teachers.

This tragedy has led to renewed and important discussions about gun control, which is often a divisive topic in our nation. The loss of so many beautiful children in a mass shooting that involved an assault rifle with ammunition clips that held large numbers of bullets makes clear that we need to revisit the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 and review permissible magazine ammunition sizes. I am also supportive of closing the gun show loophole and making sure that those with court-determined, dangerous mental health diagnoses do not get access to guns. Finally, it is equally clear that we must reconsider the mental health services available to our citizens, knowing that each mass shooting our nation has experienced involved individuals with substantial mental health problems. "Obamacare" will expand important mental health coverage when it is implemented in 2014. Protecting our children and our citizens will require us to come together to find real solutions that cover a broad range of factors that have contributed to these horrific incidents.

I firmly believe that an attempt to promote appropriate gun safety measures can be done without infringing upon law-abiding citizens' right to own firearms or unduly burdening the hunting and sportsmanship culture of Missouri. Weapons designed primarily for the use of soldiers to kill people in war are not used in hunting and can be reasonably limited without jeopardizing any rights under the Second Amendment. I believe the horror of the Newtown shootings makes clear that we must get to work protecting our communities and our children from mass slaughter, while also protecting our Second Amendment rights. I am hopeful that the National Rifle Association, a significant voice in this discussion, will be a constructive part of this dialogue.

Even as I welcome this renewed debate, please know that I will continue to protect the Second Amendment Rights of law-abiding citizens to safely own and use appropriate firearms. In the past, I have voted to permit residents of the District of Columbia to own and purchase firearms. I also supported an amendment to a spending bill that would prevent funding for any international organization, including the United Nations, that places a tax on any firearm owned by a United States citizen. I have opposed other inappropriate measures, such as forcing Missouri to accept other states' firearms laws.

As your United States Senator, I will keep your thoughts in mind anytime Congress considers gun-related legislation. In the wake of the Newtown tragedy, my prayers are with the students and staff at Sandy Hook Elementary, and with their families. All Americans are outraged at senseless and criminal gun violence no matter where they may fall in the debate on guns in American society. A renewed national conversation has begun and we must all be a constructive and open-minded part of it. There is middle ground here, where this nation can come together with sensible laws that prevent the mass murder of innocent citizens, while we continue to respect our Constitution and its Second Amendment rights.

Again, thank you for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can be of further assistance to you on this or any other issue.

Sincerely,

Claire McCaskill
United States Senator

So, there you have it. Please contact her office to let her know how you feel.

Standard response letter from some staffer, guarantee senator never even read it. At most they'll get stats on x number letters against vs y in support of. Love how they say they support 2A for "approprite" firearms, but of course they get to make that determination.

I wrote to all of mine this morning. As I am from Utah, I'm sure I'll get a better response.

Now I do have to say something about "her" response, please bear with me as I sort of point out something that is almost (I repeat "almost") encouraging:

She is almost going out of her way to make sure she affirms that she will protect our rights to own and carry "appropriate" firearms. At least some of the anti's aren't taking the position (yet) to get rid of all guns.

I'm not saying I like her response, just that I guess could like it less than I do. Just trying to be optimistic.

The sad thing is that her approaches wouldn't solve the real problems that cause these tragedies, so the gun grabbers will be calling for more and more restrictions, bit by bit. ("Well if that didn't fix it, we need to take more drastic steps!")

Yep, someday we'll be left with single shots only. I hope they don't try to take the guns that were given to me as gifts or handed down from the granddad I never got the chance to meet.

Senator McCaskill is like the rest, meaning the most important issue is reelection and financial donations to finance it. Should enough mail arrive in her office to put either of those issues in doubt she most likely won't change her mind, but will find a way to duck any votes.

With this in mind, keep writing - because enough letters will have effect. :banghead:

I read quite a few lies in her response letter.

* Assault rifle (military definition of select-fire automatic action like M4/M16) is not the same as EBR AR-15.
* AR-15 not used in theater of war
* AR-15 is indeed used in hunting
* Did Sandy Hook even use standard capacity magazines? Thought Connecticut limited to 10 rounds already?

I voted for Akin in the past General Election, but I wish there was a better choice to go against McCaskill. Keep in mind that McCaskill walks in lockstep with Obama.

"Appropriate" firearms? As in "we the government know what's best for you the people whether you like it or not" firearms?

This is beyond socialism, gentlemen. Socialism is the will of the people without regard for individual rights.

This is FASCISM - the will of government without regard for the will of the people.

To be honest, Claire McCaskill and Feintstein are pretty much the same.

Closed-minded, radical left, big government-loving morons who won't consider any idea outside of thier own, and still can;t even get terminology the same.

You bet, if push came to shove. McCaskill would support an all out gun ban. She is from our great state, but not FROM Missouri.

Your letter would be much better received by Roy Blunt.

Forgive me...

‎"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence...From the hour the Pilgrims landed, to the present day, events, occurrences, and tendencies prove that to ensure peace, security, and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable. The very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference, they deserve a place of honor with all that's good."

- George Washington

I got the same response, here is my response.

Dear Mrs. McCaskill,

I would like to start by pointing you to an example of a "mass shooting" AKA Virginia Tech, and pull a direct quote from the report that was done in the wake of the tragedy, "The panel also considered whether the previous federal Assault Weapons Act of 1994 that banned 15-round magazines would have made a difference in the April 16 incidents. The law lapsed after 10 years, in October 2004, and had banned clips or magazines with over 10 rounds. The panel concluded that 10-round magazines that were legal would have not made much difference in the incident. Even pistols with rapid loaders could have been about as deadly in this situation."

With that being said I would like to tell you that your approach to this "problem" is not an answer at all and it seems obvious to me that you are not taking any facts about the whole picture of this situation into account. The second amendment was not created to protect sportsmen or the hunting culture, which is obvious if you read the actual text because those things are mentioned nowhere within it.

In closing I would like to let you know that it is obvious to myself, a gun owner that you are not willing to protect my rights as given under the constitution. I will ensure that you do not garner my vote in the next election and will also make sure to inform all of my fellow Missouri gun owners that you do not support their rights.

If she's only interested in preserving the 2nd A to protect hunting related firearms, where does that leave most handguns? Also, who cares about hunting? What about self defense?

haha Well if that A$$clown Aiken didn't shoot his mouth of about abortions being a gift from god or or whatever the hell he said MO might not be in this situation.

"Did Sandy Hook even use standard capacity magazines? Thought Connecticut limited to 10 rounds already?"

CT Does NOT have any sort of magazine restriction.... yet anyway. Don't know where everyone is getting this from but its been quite anoyying seeing it everywhere. Guess thats my fault for still living in this tax capital.
