What happens next? The homeowner charged for "assault with a firearm"? Or perhaps two more "children" injured by a gun?

Considering the article's source, it seems very positive, but one must wonder if such an article would be printed if the rifle was black and scary looking.

Lenexa man ambushes burglar at home
By RICHARD ESPINOZA The Kansas City Star

A burglary attempt that dragged on for two hours quickly fell apart early Wednesday with the firm swing of an antique rifle against an intruder's head.

Police say the young burglar ran off in pain without warning his partner, who was still standing lookout when Lenexa police drove up. Officers arrested the suspect and then followed footprints in the snow to arrest a younger teen.

A Lenexa resident told police that someone rang his doorbell late Tuesday night. When he was about to open the door, though, he saw two teens running away and figured he was the victim of a prank.

He heard another noise later and looked out a window. He saw a pair of teens walking around his house, according to a police report. He went to bed without confronting the young men.

About two hours later, another noise startled the man, he told police. It sounded like breaking glass, so he went downstairs to investigate. Someone had shattered a window in the basement, but there was no sign that a burglar had crept inside yet.

The man picked up an antique rifle, took a spot on a sofa near the broken window, and waited.

A head soon popped through the opening. The man used the rifle to whack the intruder, who ran away, said Lenexa Police Sgt. Rick Roth.

When police arrived, they found a surprised young man waiting near the house. He told police he was just hanging around smoking, but investigators think he was watching out for trouble while his accomplice tried to slip through the broken window.

Officers found a younger teen hiding in a car in a garage nearby. Police think the suspects were the ones who had been making noise around the house hours earlier.

A 15-year-old from Shawnee was charged in the juvenile division of Johnson County District Court with aggravated burglary and attempted theft. A judge ordered him held until his next court date.

The alleged lookout, Samuel Brooks, 18, of Lenexa, was charged in Johnson County District Court with aggravated burglary and criminal damage to property. His bond was set at $20,000.

Very scary indeed. Last thing I'd want to see this if I stuck my head through a broken window. :what:

This is terrible! That poor rifle could have been seriously damaged.

Actually I'm glad the kids were caught and nobody was killed or seriously hurt. Seems like just a bunch of punk kids getting into trouble. Hopefully this'll learn 'em.

The kid ran off? The guy didn't hit him hard enough over the head. Next time, use the antique frying pan.
