anyone ride their bicycles a lot? do you carry, and how? was thinking of going with a belly band, but not sure how well it'd work with my fat gut.

edit: looking for solutions that would have it on my person, preferably strong side, since i'd be hunched forward and my thighs pumping up and down...

I sometimes ride (used to ride as my main source of transportation) and have carried using a Smartcary. Sometimes I will rotate it to my right side and it works well. Of course, I wear sweats instead of lycra when I ride.

^^^ didn't know about that option. looks like its' got room for everything i need. but... only thing that might be a problem, is when riding i'm hunched forward and my thighs are pumping up and down, and it will probably just be smacking that stuff around. did you carry it small of back with that?

Sometimes in the seatpack. Sometimes in a nylon holster affixed(via velcro straps) under the top bar either at the front pointing forward or at the back pointing backwards toward the seat tube...so basically it's "open carry in my vehicle which is an extension of my home". I have carried it in the back of the spandex bike shorts so it prints really well...on two lane roads where you are likely to be bumped or run in the ditch. Aggressive drivers will usually move completely to the left lane to pass if they are observant. I also have a nylon holster that fits a modified bottle holder when I don't need two bottles of liquid with me.

90% of the time I keep it in the seatpack.

Also, if you do 15-20mi intense on Mo, Tu, We, Th and reserve Sa for a 30-50mi ride(Fr and Su off)...there's no way you can have a gut at the end of 3 months. Note: Expect your food bill to increase to about double by month 2. :)

on the gut: i used to ride 100mi/week when i lived on the west coast. moved to a city here in jawja, never biked again... trying to get back into it, it's tough, esp. with a long commute to work, full time school, and shooting sports up to 3-4 times a week... though shooting has been trimmed back to make room for exercise.

I've used the Smartcarry in the manner it was designed for - in the front - and rotated to the right ninety degrees. I'm shaped similar to a beach ball and neither way was uncomfortable for me. I carry a j-frame snubbie. Something bigger may be a different story.

A fanny-pack doesn't look quite so out of place on a cyclist as I think it does most of the time. I don't like to peddle but my father-in-law seems to like a fanny-pack turned 90 degrees onto his strong side.

so basically like a strong side IWB? might actually make sense and work good.

forgot to mention, gun won't be big, probably just my 380 or thin 9.

I wear an under armor shirt with a bellyband and a cycling jersey. It may sound like it would be hot to ride in, but it's not bad

I run and bike a bit with either a belly band or Goblin camel back. The key is my PF9 is light and very slim. Perfect running/biking gun.

I ride about 50mi a week ouff/on road I carry a p3at in a desantis nemisis (pocket carry) I allso carry a kimber OC spray for a Back up/ dog deterant

Not my bike but belongs to a buddy of mine. Have similar plans for mine I have used my bike on more than one occasion to hunt public ground. There is a area near here that is open for hiking and biking to the public during the spring and summer. It then closes and opens as a public hunting area archery only. Strap my bow across the handle bars my pack on my back with a seat. They are great very small footprint. You don't leave much if any scent, quiet, and you can cover more ground and get furthur than the weekend warriors.

Other wise I carry in a small triangle frame pack on the bike. It attaches on both top and post parts of the frame. Zippered to strong side do this on both mountain bike and road bike.

off topic but what do you guys ride?

I ride a Specialized Allez carbon fiber that I built with Campy aeros and Shimano components(16lbs) on the road and a Haro Extreme on the trail...although I will probably never ride a trail again...enjoy covering miles quicker on the road...scenery is better and so is the workout.

Trail bike Bulls 5.0 sport purchased in Germany in 02. Road this bike all over Europe and had it shipped back with housing.

road bike Giant FCR purchased from a guy I met at bike across Kansas.

I ride a Soma Smoothie Es with Campy Chorus gruppo and carbon Record cranks. Big steel frame is like a magic carpet ride!:D

'08 Specialized Hardrock Comp Disc, wrecked since pic was taken and rebuild with SLX crankset & front derailluer, couple other upgrades.

EDIT: I don't normally carry when I ride. Maybe if I was a roadie, but mountain biking is a bit bouncy, and makes retention difficult, as well as uncomfortable.

S&W 442 in a Small Uncle Mikes belt pack, on my cargo shorts with padded under shorts. Don't even know it is there. I have had this small pack for so long that I don't remember the name of it. It is not a fanny pack . It goes right to your belt & is very secure. It has a hidden velcro pocket inside the first zippered pocket. If you dump the bike the firearm is also protected from damage.

yeah, if i go biking... first thing i can see someone doing is knocking me right off my bike. throw a rod or stick into the spoke or just ramming me from the side. i'll explore some of the options suggested. thanks guys. :)

I generally carry in a fanny pack, inside the pack on the top of the rear carrier. This permits me to fish out the fanny pack when we stop without "flashing". I never leave the bike without taking the fanny pack. (It also has wallet, keys and cell phone...)

When I wear the fanny pack, it is on my weak side, which sets up the internal holster as a cross-draw.

The comment about bicycles and fanny packs is correct. Never draws a second glance. I think everyone believes cyclists dispense with fashion sense. :)

Not any more, but I used to. Holster went inside the web frame of a Boy Scout day-pack that held my work clothes and radio. Accessible from the top, along with a Ka-Bar.

Hey, when you're doing the LA River run from Downey to Long Beach you have to go through Compton.

Bring back-up.

I ride the rails to trails bike trail here and usually have a polymer framed 9mm in my fanny pack.I wear it weak side for cross-draw and keep a cell phone and car keys in there with a reload.Like the poster previously stated you will probably be knocked off the bike right away so any method utilizing on the bike mounting should be avoided.YMMV.tom.
