I've got an old Colt Challenger that I inherited from my grandfather. I absolutely love it, mostly because it shoots so sweet that it makes me feel like a hero marksman.

Here's my old girl....she's a little worn looking but still runs like a sewing machine:

If I remember right, the serial number dates it made in 1951.

Anybody else own one or two of these? Show 'em off!

Father-in-law has a Woodsman, second edition target model, he got back in '51. Still shoots great but because parts are scarce he has wisely turned it into a safe queen.

Kas:

I wish I could, my father had a beautiful match target, second edition, the one with the full barrel underlug, it was 100% witthout a scratch on it, as it spent it's life in a soft cotton wrap inside a pistol case. My father wanted me to inherit the pistol, however, the evil stepmother saw that his children got none of the family posessions after his passing. That's another story.

Anyway, my father worked for a defense contractor from the end of the war (second world war that is) until the 70's. About 1960 ish, he toured the Colt factory with several other engineering and management types from his company. Part of the tour was firing some of the Colt pistols at the range. After the firing session, the Colt PR man conducting the tour looked at the group quite blatently, and said "Well, we can't sell those pistols as new any more, I guess you fellas are just going to have to take them home with you". Haha, why can't anything like this ever happen to me?

That is a beautiful woodsman you have, enjoy. If you haven't taken it apart yet, they are a little convoluted. I believe I had to push the backstrap in to get the slide off, anyway, I'm sure there are plenty of folks here that have them if you are ever in need of information.

Woodsman parts aren't that scarce or expensive.
Replacement parts can easily be found at Bobs, Numerich, Jack First, etc. Wolff makes replacement springs.

Grayrock - Nice!

Got Lead? - Cool story.

Thanks for the compliments. I'd like to get a nice holster for it (would it fit well in a Buckmark or Ruger holster?), and track down some spare magazines.

I am a huge fan of them. I have owned 4. The only one I own now is the one below from 1933. It is also pictured with a 1936 model I used to own.

My wife owns a Huntsman that she inherited from her father. Insanely sweet to shoot and it's supposed to be one of the "cheap" ones...
