I recently obtained a contender barrel from a fellow THR member. 14 inches, chambered for the little oddball 25TCU/25 Ugalde/.257tcu whatever you choose to call it. Now I need a scope for her. This will be mostly a range gun. It may see use in select hunting or varminting situations if conditions allow, but my 357 max has the killing things niche covered. My Max wears an older Burris 2x. It's fine for the max. Not the clearest and not great for precision shots. I'm looking for a more powerful, clearer pistol scope. I understand my field of view Is going to diminish but this gun will be shot exclusively from solid rests at stationary targets so not a concern. Magnification, clarity and ability to hold zero are chief concerns. Any recommendations?

Thanks hunter. Yep I got dies, data, articles, brass and bullets with it. Just have to get a scope and fore end for it, find some powder and she'll holders then start playing. Will probably be a few months but yall will definitely see the results posted on the forum. :)

I have 20 Thompson barrels, both Contender and Encore, and both pistol and rifle barrels. Unless you are using a rifle barrel and a butt stock, anything over 4 power is not easy to hold steady on a small target. The highest magnification I have on a pistol barrel is 7 power, and it is difficult to keep on target, even when using a rest. Experience is the best teacher, try an 8 power and let us know what you think.

You might look at the Burris 2-7X LER as I haven't had any problems with them on the Contender and Encore barrels. Very clear picture and handles recoil as I've never had to make any adjustments after initial sight-in.

I have 2 buries scopes, 1 is a 2 power, the other is 3 power, I have the 3 power on my 12 .30 Herrett. If your going to use it at the range, its cool.but for hunting,i use a good Dot,I put a rifle scope on my 221 fire ball, plus with both of my Burris scopes, if your in the Woods, you need alot of sun light, and you'll need a stick to keep cross hairs still.ask me how I
know, LOL,I like the put a good red dot on my 30.

A Klipspringer taken at about 180 yards with a Leupold 2.5-8X scope set to 8X mounted on an Encore 460 S&W Magnum. It does take practice to shoot a handgun with scopes of higher magnifications but the field of view isn't an insurmountable obstacle.

Before you buy any scope, go to a web site like Cabela's or MidwayUSA, and read the reviews on the scope you're contemplateing buying.

A Simmons 2x6 Pro Hunter will do fine for your new barrel and a great scope for the money as long as you don't put it on a sledgehammer caliber.
I have three of them on Contender barrels 223, 7TCU, and 357 Max.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I tried a little fast fire 3 on my 357 max and didn't like it. Just felt odd. I think IL stick to a Burris 2x. Gotta stock up on components first though. :banghead:

I know a guy owns a gun shop, and does a lot of competition type shooting with his Contender. For my .357 Herrett, he most strongly recommended a 2.5-8 Weaver. Now, I'm a Leupold/Burris guy. He assured me that I'd like the Weaver, and I do. He's had the others, and always chooses Weaver. Very nice scope. Only Weaver I have.
