I was thinking about getting one for my 1911 .45acp and any first hand accounts would be very much appreciated.

for those of you who don't know...

Welcome to Mech-Tech Systems Inc.

Mech-Tech manufactures a Carbine Conversion Unit (CCU), which will turn the pistol into a handy short rifle. The resulting combination operates in semi-auto mode just as the pistol and fires the same pistol ammunition. The conversion requires no modifications to the pistol and is totally reversible. The CCU is fitted with a Weaver style sight rail to which a variety of optical sighting devices may be attached. Benefits of the Mech-Tech CCU are increased accuracy, increased power (about 25%), same familiar 'feel' as the pistol, same pistol magazines, easy to use and just plain fun to shoot! There is also available a metallic aperture style sighting system which has additional accessory rails for such items as tactical flash lights and laser aimers. All accessories on this website are available for both Glock and 1911 units and may be combined in about any desired configuration.

I have one. It's a fun little carbine. I put an Air Force surplus AR stock on mine. It has a different 1911 frame on it now.

I have one and don't use it much. Mine chews up brass (and I'm a reloader). Though, I have found it does it less with +P loads and 230 grain bullets.

I have one in 10 mm and it has always done very well for me. I reload and it does not damage the cases at all even though it is a blow-back action. I have a 45 mm Red Dot sight mounted on it and it is very quick to aquire a target. Mech-Tech systems has come out with a lot of neat new accessaries since I purchased mine. Have a great week. Regards, Dan.

I've just recently found out about these. I've been wanting a 45ACP "assault rifle" but haven't been able to find one I liked. This looks like a pretty good alternative. Especially since you can get them with quad rails and collapsable butt stocks now.

What if you wanted to shorten the barrel? Could you register your pistol as an SBR?

I wonder if the barrel is over 16" without the flash suppressor. I want to suppress it if I get one and I don't think the flash suppressor is screwed on so I'd have to cut the barrel and then thread it...perhaps making the barrel shorter than 16".

I have a 40 cal MechTech with g22 lower. collapsable stock. Threaded the front barrel to use with my Blackside supp. Fun gun. Weird harmonics. The spring in it vibrates long after shooting. The collapsable stock is ok. Barrel came plain, so no need to shorten to thread.

Yes.

I've shot the Glock units, they're functional and fairly accurate but they just look and feel cheap. Doesn't mean they won't hold up, etc., but I'd rather have a purpose-made carbine.
