My Son gave me a bunch of .270 win brass, once fired with the head stamp "HRTRS". This ammo was new factory, but the primers are flowing completely over the edge of the pocket, in other words they are all top hats.

I'm curious if anyone else has experienced any high pressure signs with this stuff.

Also, anyone know if this brass is thinker than usual, thus needing special consideration when reloading it, such as PMC brass.

That headstamp is Herter's brass which is now Cabela's in-house brand. It's manufactured by Sellier & Bellot and I would reload the brass if I had any. I'm not sure if it's thicker or not but it should be fairly good ammo since it's made by S&B.

Hey GS,
Sorry, never seen that headstamp, but wanted to ask. What special consideration for PMC brass? I have about 100 30-30s to reload.

I don't know about their rifle brass but their pistol brass is pretty good stuff. The pistol brass may not be made by the same company though since Herter's contracts it all out and Cabelas is the sole distributor. Their pistol brass has some darn right primer pockets (I out a tiny bit of chamfer on the pockets) and it seems to split sooner than most other brands (at the case mouth). But it runs very smooth until it splits.

I know their Herters, but I've never used any, I always heard they were very reloadable brass and wouldn't hesitate to use it my self. I haven't heard of any quirks with it.

Keep us informed on how this works out for you.

Yes, its Herters as sold by Cabelas. I just reloaded 50 of them last week. What really impressed me was how clean the insides of the casings were just after firing. They came out of the pistol as clean as most brass comes out of the tumbling media. It reloaded like any of other brass. I didn't measure wall thickness or anything else. Just lubed it and ran it through my Dillon. Good stuff in my eyes.

BoHo, I've had bottle neck PMC brass that was so much thicker than say Win, Fed, or RP, that when I loaded some tested mild to moderate load, they were running some really spectacular pressures in comparison. Don't know much about their pistol brass though, sorry.

Now I Know!!

I just picked up 50 rounds of brass at the range Monday that had the "HRTRS" head-stamp on it too. I wondered about who made it and where it came from. Thanks to you guys, now I know!!! :D
