I've always thought an M16A4 clone, complete with ACOG, could be a fun toy. Bushmaster was selling them for awhile, 20-inch barrels with 1:7 twist and forearm rails, as the USMC Rifle, but they don't appear to be doing so now. KAC's SR-15 looks very similar, though IIRC it may have an 18-in barrel.

Just get any basic 20" flattop AR, and order/install the rails on yourself. No need to seek out a premade M16A4 lookalike. The military usually uses 2-piece, non-freefloat railed handguards on the vast majority of M4's and M16A4's... they're simple to install, which is no coincidence.

I live in a ban state, so mine lacks a bayonet lug and flash hider. In the past, I had a surplus A2 stock (complete with rack numbers) on it. Right now, since I have been using this rifle for action shooting and falling plates, I put a slightly shorter USGI surplus A1 stock on it. The sling is an unissued USGI OD web sling. My barrel is a Bushy chrome lined 1:9 20".

I made one.

Most 20" uppers from the major makes are HBARs. The military barrel is light under the handguards. Big weight difference.

Mine consists of:

-LMT A2 stocked lower
-CMMG govt. spec upper (everything correct including all barrel specs, FSB... the exception being that it has M4 feed ramps).
-LMT M16 BCG/CH
-KAC M5 handguards and VFG
-TA31RCO-A4

Mine does have some incorrect parts on it. Known differences apart from the giggle switch of course:

-M4 feed ramps (fixable, but not easily)
-MIAD grip in place of A2 grip (easily fixable... pure comfort thing for me)
-Ambi selector in place of non-ambi (easily fixable.. comfort thing for me as a lefty)
-LT100 mount in place of the Trijicon mount (easily fixable)
